No collection of classic British trials bikes should be without a Norton 500T - one of the outstanding machines of the immediate post-war era. In the hands of top riders such as Geoff Duke and Rex Young it was a formidable force that according to historian Don Morley 'would do most things better than any of its other rigid contemporaries'. Our bike is a beautifully restored example that according to the VMCC dating certificate left the Bracebridge Street works on 14th November 1949, making it from the early part of the model's six-year production span. It is a matching numbers bike (E3T267**) and its original registration has been restored by the DVLA and is now non-transferable. The bulk of the restoration work was carried out in 2004/5, the most important part being a full engine rebuild and gearbox overhaul by Norton Specialist Mike Pemberton's Pushrod Performance at a cost of over £2500. Included in this was a conversion ot a modern electronic BT-H magneto. We have a detailed specification of the engine work which we can supply on request. The cycle parts have been refinished to a very high standard and the bike retains the majority of its now hard to find original parts such as the tool box and scalloped front hub. It comes to us from a private collection of choice competition machines. Although of show quality, it is a bike that has been built to use so it starts easily and runs beautifully. It is superbly tractable from walking pace and is suprisingly light and manageable. We have had good fun on our improvised test track around the trading estate and it is a very nice ride. It is road legal and was MOT tested as recently as 2012 (now exempt). Fewer than 900 500Ts were built and far fewer original bikes survive today, especially in this condition. One for the serious investor/collector.
