If your classic biking activities veer more towards riding than polishing then this is just your sort of machine. This 500cc single Velocette MSS is a properly sorted tourer owned by a man who expects to kick it over and go for a spin whenever the mood takes him. Comfortable and powerful enough, it offers proper old school motorcycling. Although this is a 1960 example, the MSS can trace its roots right back to the mid 1930s. It was the biggest of Velocette's trio of OHV bikes, alonside the 250cc MOV and 350cc MAC. A reworked version of the MSS appeared in 1954 and although the 25hp output appeared modest on paper, Velocette's fine frame and superb steering meant it was an excellent performer where it mattered - on the road. It stayed in production right through to 1971 when the famous old firm finally closed. This is a matching numbers bike, with a dating letter from the company to confirm that it was delivered to Mr Regan of Middlesborough in May 1960, via dealers Cowie of Stockton. It has had a total of six owners since then. The registration 126 JPT is non-transferable. It has been well maintained in the current hands and used regularly for touring and club outings. It starts easily and is, we are told, a pleasure to ride.It is now reluctantly offered for sale to fund the purchase of a Gold Star. Velocette's sporting singles may hog the limelight but the MSS is much sought after by those who know and appreciate its qualities and they are rarely available is such unmolested condition.
