Description

An unusual, interesting and spacious saloon, with various appealing interior features, and in fascinating ‘oily rag’ condition. The car is very sound and correct, tall in design, perhaps intended for wearing top hats! The interior, which has recently been very sensitively refurbished, incorporates buttoned ‘Morocco Fawn’ leather seating, broad lace, cord and rosette ornamentation, grab handles and a very large sunroof, all of which are original and documented. A recent 40 year ownership no doubt helped to maintain this correctness. Still in its original dark green and black colour scheme. A great car to re-commission and use cosmetically 'as is'. SALE AGREED Chassis No. GSF58. Reg No. AKD 796. £27,500. Snippets: Delivered to John C. Cannington, QC at the Exchange Chambers in Liverpool. In 1866 his father together with John Shaw had founded the Cannington & Shaw Bottle Shop, in 1913 the firm merged with Nuttall & Co forming the United Glass Bottle Manufacturers. John C Cannington resided at 1 Windermere Terrace in Princes Park, Liverpool, the Park was designed by Joseph Paxton in 1842 – J Paxton had been head gardener at Chatsworth House and in 1851 designed the venue for the Great Exhibition in London - Crystal Palace – for which he was knighted. In April 1935 GSF58 is shown as being with Capt Hector Charles Donald MacLean who, during WWII was a navigation specialist on HMS Cossack at the time of the Altmark incident, he was mentioned in despatches & awarded the DSC. He later served on the HMS Ark Royal which was sank in 1941 and then on the HMS Anson. He was later promoted to Admiral & served on HMS Eagle from 1956 – 1957. In 1962 J M Salt of Lyndcroft Gardens in Ewell purchased the car but sold it after only 2 years of ownership.
