Description

1974 Porsche 911 RSR 3.0 Toad Hall VIN: 911 460 9049 First delivered to Toad Hall Racing, Michael Keyser Extensive IMSA and European racing history Competed at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1974 and Daytona and Sebring in 1975 Restored by Gunnar Racing Prepped for racing and maintained by Canepa Motorsport The third 1974 RSR 3.0 built, 911 460 9049 was first sold to Michael Keysers Toad Hall Racing Team. It would become one of the most successful and visible RSRs to be raced in the US. Painted Rain-X yellow with distinctive black and green trim, Keyser and Milt Minter raced it throughout the 1974 IMSA series, achieving several top three finishes (including a win at Lime Rock, 2nd at Road Atlanta, 2nd at Talladega, 3rd at Ontario, and 3rd at Mid-Ohio.) It also ran at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1974 driven by Michael Keyser, Milt Minter, and Paul Blancpain, where it finished 11th in class and 20th overall. In 1975, co-driving with Billy Sprowls and Andres Contreras, Keyser and 9049 took 2nd overall at the 24 Hours of Daytona, and 13th overall at the 12 Hours of Sebring. 9049 would continue to be very successful in the 1975 IMSA series, with high finishes at Road Atlanta, Laguna Seca, and Riverside. 1976 Keyser sold 9049 to independent driver John Wood. Wood intended to use the car in Trans-Am races, so he had to modify the bodywork slightly. It appears that these modifications comprised of making the rear flares narrower, and fitting a 76 930 Turbo tail. Wood finished 4th overall in the Trans-Am Category 1 class in 1977. In 1978, just before Sebring, Wood sold 9049 to Jack Refenning and Dr. Ray Mummery of Miami Auto Racing. The car was sold without an engine, but with the narrower bodywork it made a perfect fit for the IMSA GTU class. A 2.5 liter engine was quickly installed and the car headed to the 12 Hours of Sebring. The car proved to be really fast, but the loss of the clutch put them out of the race. They would go on to successfully campaign 9049 through the 1978 and 1979 IMSA seasons, with returns to Sebring and the 24 Hours of Daytona in 1979. In 1980 the car was sold to accomplished racer Diego Febles of Puerto Rico. He would race the car on and off for the next few years. In the early 1990s the car was imported back into the United States by JR Borsos. The rediscovered RSR was quickly purchased by Kevin Jeanette of Gunnar Racing who proceeded to fully restore the race car. It would end up in the Blackhawk Collection in 2002. In 2004 Canepa purchased 9049 from the Blackhawk, and began a comprehensive program of preparation to return the car to track ready condition including a complete tear down and track testing. After a period of private ownership 9049 has returned to Canepa, and now is available for historic racing. 9049 is certainly one of the best RSRs with US racing history, with several entries at Daytona and Sebring. It is also among only a handful of RSRs to have completed the 24 Hours of Le Mans. It remains as one of the best-restored 1974 3.0 RSRs with its correct, highly recognizable, and distinctive Toad Hall livery, and is eligible for historic racing worldwide. 1974 IMSA Camel GT - GTO 4/21 Road Atlanta 2nd Keyser/Minter 5/04 Lime Rock T/A 3rd Keyser 5/12 Laguna Seca 8th Keyser/Minter 5/19 Ontario 3rd Keyser/Minter 6/15 24 Hours of Le Mans 11th in class, 20th OA Keyser/Minter/Blancpain 6/30 Mid-Ohio 5 Hours 3rd Keyser/Minter 7/4 Daytona Paul Revere 250 5th Keyser/Minter 7/13 Watkins Glen 6 Hours 1st in class, 10th OA Keyser/Minter 8/10 Talladega 2nd Keyser 8/18 Charlotte 16th &nbs
