Description

Very nice restoration finished a few years ago and rarely used since. Super straight California car with very, very early production number.

A life-long California car, this 1967 Camaro SS 350 was restored in the early 2000s to be a high-grade driver and still looks fantastic with only a few thousand miles since it was completed. The VIN and cowl tag offer some interesting information, perhaps most noteworthy is the fact that this is a very, very early car, the 323rd built at the Van Nuys assembly plant in August of 1966.

The cowl tag also tells us that this car was originally Marina Blue, but it now wears a brilliant coat of Garnet Red with black SS stripes, giving it a predatory, high-performance look that suits the early Camaro just fine. The sheetmetal, being from California, is quite straight and clean and aside from the trunk pan, we believe it to be 100% original and in excellent shape. The workmanship that went into the car was of uniformly high quality, with good gaps all around and super straight panels that show off the high-gloss urethane paint to great effect. Both the front and rear bumpers are original, and will be included with the car, but the rear bumper is showing its age and a replacement has been ordered and will be on the car before it ships to its lucky new owner.

The black vinyl interior was refreshed at the same time as the body and still looks fantastic. The front seat covers are new, while we believe the back seat is original, more proof that this was a good, clean, solid car when the work began. The original gauges covered only the basics of speed and fuel level, so a set of auxiliary instruments were fitted below the dash in the usual location. The factory’s skinny and often sticky plastic wheel was recently replaced by a beautiful Grant wood rim that feels great in your hands and really adds some warmth to the all-black interior. New carpets were fitted and the door panels are still quite nice, with only minor modifications to accommodate the midrange and tweeters for the custom stereo system. The rear quarter panels have additional speakers, along with a pair of big Kicker 6x9s on the rear package shelf, all controlled by a Kenwood AM/FM/cassette head unit with CD changer controls and powered by a big amp neatly mounted in the trunk. And speaking of the trunk, you’ll note that the replacement pan was neatly installed (replacement was likely due to leaking trunk gaskets, a common problem even on California cars), and a new trunk mat was just installed.

The engine is a great-running 350 cubic inch V8 with enough chrome to make it look good and a big Holley on top to deliver the horsepower. It’s not numbers-matching, but it does give this Camaro plenty of go with a fantastic V8 soundtrack to accompany the show. A cowl-induction air cleaner assembly inhales cold air from the base of the windshield, and a set of ceramic-coated long-tube headers feed an oversized exhaust with a transverse Flowmaster muffler. It’s backed by a quick-witted TH350 3-speed automatic transmission in place of the factory-issued 2-speed PowerGlide (a welcome upgrade) and the 10-bolt rear end is full of 4.11 gears on a Posi limited slip. Corvette Rally wheels wearing staggered 215/65/15 front and 235/60/15 rear Uniroyal performance radials give it the perfect muscle car look.

Camaros have always represented fast, affordable fun, and with this handsome red coupe, you can have that classic look with plenty of horsepower to back it up. Offering good west coast sheetmetal and a bulletproof drivetrain, this is the car you can drive daily without a second thought and still show proudly on the weekends.
