Registration Number: Italian Registered Chassis Number: 11800546 It was evident to Porsche management in the late Fifties that the 356 series was rapidly becoming dated and reaching the end of its development potential, so in 1959 Ferdinand Porsche set about designing a completely new car. A number of criteria were laid down: the car would have a wheelbase no longer than 2,200 mm wheelbase, and would carry two adults and two children. The new model was introduced at the Frankfurt show in September 1963. It was a significant advance on the outgoing car, providing greater performance, space and refinement. The new engine, a 1,991cc horizontally-opposed 6 cylinder unit, was designed by Ferdinand Piech, Dr Porsche´s nephew. Situated in the rear to maximise traction and space efficiency, it produced 130 bhp. Not only has the model proved seemingly immortal, but it has undergone the most rigorous development over its lifetime of possibly any car. Various years represent highlights in terms of car specification and car desirability, and of the normal road-going versions this 1967 version of the S must be one of the ultimate early 911s. This car was sold new in Germany in 1967 but was later exported to Italy where it spent its early days in Perugia. As it has been used sparingly for events in Italy, the owner wanted to upgrade its performance and fitted it with a 2,2 litre engine dismantling the original 2 litre unit. Front suspension has been rebuilt includidng tie-rod ends having been replaced. New front bumper manufactured and new floors. Original seats and original block with many spare parts also come with the car so it can easily be turned into a matching number car if wanted.
