Registration Number: 2-72 Chassis Number: P.G. 4/24/72 6-3-85 This particular McLaren M8F is one of the examples designed for the CanAm series. The Canadian American Challenge Cup series brought the head of racecars by having nearly no restrictions and limitations. Since that golden ear those types of speed and power have not been reached in a championship- not even in Formula1 cars. Under the open specification Bruce McLaren (New Zealand) designed race cars in the late 1960s and beginning 1970s which belonged to the most powerful cars for ever. The M8F is one of those incredible machines. Tragically on the 2nd June 1970 Bruce McLaren died at car tests at Goodwood. But the development of the cars was continued in the following years. The brakes were inline mounted to the body of the gearbox to reduce the unsprung weight. As well in 1970 McLaren race cars has been produced at the high qualified car manufacturer Trojan, Croydon, England by license for all customer McLaren M8Fs . Herewith the European popularity of the well powered Group-7-race cars started; they raced for example in the Interserie championship. Some of the best known drivers include Chris Craft, Peter Gethin, Vic Elfort, Derek Bell und Helmut Kelleners. All of them were very successful and had a lot of pole positions and victories. At the beginning of the 1972 race season company Trojan Ltd. started with the delivery of the M8Fs.This wonderful M8F on offer today is chassis number 02-72. Delivered new to its first owner Weisberg Werkzeuge Team in February 1972 they raced it with Helmut Kelleners in the German Championship Interserie and won the 3rd place in total. In 1973 Helmut Kelleners raced the McLaren M20 but the still competitive M8F was taken in its original light and dark blue Weisberg-coloures and raced by by Michael Weber. Later that season the M8F was sold to the current owner and vendor Peter Hoffmann The legend, Peter Hoffmann raced with this car in different colors of different sponsors at several championships very successful. These included the Interserie, 300km, 500km, 1000km and at the World Championship overall in Europe. From 1975 to 1979 (color blue) Hoffmann competed in the Interserie with 5 first placements and 4 additional front positions. In 79' Hoffmann still clinched a 3rd and 4th place, incredible In light of the power of the competitors in those days at the Interserie. Notably during this period, in the year 1977 Peter was the only race driver in the world who gathered Car Manufacturer World Championship points (13 points) for McLaren at the 500km Monza and the 250km at Imola races. Hoffmann raced again the the 1980 1981 season. This time the car was red with Riba sponsorship. Competitng in the Interserie he finished with 3 placements and 2 additional front positions. The most remarkable herein was the 8th position in the 1000km Nürburgring race, 25 May 1980. Fighting against the works teams and drivers like Rolf Stommelen (1st), John Fitzpatrick (2nd), Hans-Joachim Stuck (3rd) in cars like Porsche 908/4Turbo, 935K3/80, BMW M1, Lancia Beta Montecarlo the private drivers Hoffmann/Dombrowski with their McLaren M8F came in after nearly 6h race with only 3 laps behind the first.In their group sportscars over 2 litre they reached the 2nd place. In the following years Peter raced in the Interserie and the Super Cup Championship other race cars still maintaining his M8F over the years he brought it back to race live in 1992. From 1992 until present day chassis 2-72 finished in Hoffmann Special colour scheme competed in the Super Sports Cup and took a lot of of pole positions. Most notably at the Super Sport Cup Race 2005 in Monza Peter got perhaps the big award for nearly of racing, finishing the same Monza Race with the same M8F!
