Description

Registration Number: German Registered / FIA papered Chassis Number: YM11944 For the debut of its new MG 'A' in 1955, MG wisely chose that year's Le Mans 24 hour race; after a succession of open-wheeled models there were fears of an adverse reaction to such a streamlined car and it was felt that by showing the MG 'A' in competition first the aerodynamic shape would be accepted as a performance essential. There had been some delays, however, in getting the go ahead for production, MG owner BMC declining, having already agreed with Donald Healey to build the Austin Healey 100. It was the success of a highly streamlined MG 'A' prototype, which took several speed records up to 153mph, which finally persuaded BMC to relent. The 'Twin-Cam' MGA was introduced midway through 1958. The 1,588cc unit was rated at 108bhp at 6,700rpm providing the car with a 0-60mph time of 9 seconds and a maximum speed of 115mph. The suspension was by independent coil springs at the front and a live rear axle with leaf springs, the car had a close-ratio gearbox and the specification was rounded off with all round disc brakes. This well known Twin Cam MG A was acquired by a German race driver in 1985 from Mike Entwisle and converted from RHD to LHD. Later in the 1980,s Peter Hinderer obtained FIA papers H 652/90 and the car was successfully campaigned by him. In 1993 the MG was sold to Rainer Kraus and in 2001 sold again to the current owner who continued to use it in prestigious rallies and races like Targa Florio, Eifel Klassik, Oldtimer Festival, Oldtimer Grand Prix, 300 km Nordschleife and many more. Since 2001 the car has been registered with German registration number B-MG 552 and the road registration papers also come with the car. Today this important MG A Twin Cam is said to be ready for racing and rallying and is equipped with all the necessary components to do so. The car is well proven and definitely opens a wide area of possibilities to use it like it has been used over the last 50 years. Not to be missed.
