1954 Rolls Royce Silver Dawn from £49,500 depending upon required specification Chassis No SOG 18: Engine No S 95 Some three years after the Bentley MK VI was introduced a demand for an Owner Driver Rolls Royce along similar lines gradually built up. To satisfy this demand the design for the Ascot 1 which had been drawn up in 1945 but mothballed by Rolls Royce was resurrected and prepared for production. Silver Dawn was the name given to this RR version of the Bentley MK VI and first model appeared in public at the 1949 International Worlds fair Toronto. The choice of exhibition was deliberate as the Silver Dawn was built exclusively for export markets. The car was first offered to the British public at the Earls Court Show in 1953. SOG 18 was originally built by Rolls Royce Motors for W.B. Gardner-Henderson from Dunbartonshire and delivered in March 1954. SOG 18 was subsequently in the ownership of three titled owners before being exported to the United States. Little is known of its history while in the US except that it ended up on a private estate in the US where it had languished for more than twenty years unused until rescued and re-imported into the UK with all duties and taxes paid by the current owner. The car is what is known as the big engine, big boot and sun-roof RR version built on the same chassis of the Bentley R type with a standard steel sports saloon body in Masons Black with beige upholstery. The car is solid with no signs of any serious rust and complete with all the original fittings and owners hand book, factory build records and data, etc. The car is being updated and re-finished to bring it back to its former glory and includes: Full interior refurbishment, reupholstered to the original colour and specification, all interior woodwork restored and refinished to original specification and full set of new carpets; completed by our master craftsman in the finest leather hide amd wilton carpet at a cost of £14,000. Mechanically updated and MOT tested ready for the Road. The build records show that the UK registration number STU 333 still on the car is the original registration when the car was first delivered and is in the process of being recovered from DVLA.
