Most classics have a story to tell but this fine MGC GT has had a particularly interesting life. In one family ownership until 2011, having passed from the original owner to his daughter in 1982, it was sent away for a full professional restoration in the late 1980s. The company got the car to a restored and painted shell in its original Tartan Red, but then went out of business. Having finally retrieved it and unable to continue the work, the owner stored it in the warehouse belonging to the family tea business, where it stayed for the next 20 years. The current owner acquired it two years ago and he has completed the project. All the major body and mechanical work had been done and remains in excellent condition thanks to the ideal storage conditions (tea and cars both like to be cool and dry!) but there was still much detailing work to be done inside and out. The interior has been completely renewed, with all new leather seats, carpets, headlining and door cards, all to the correct pattern. A new wooden steering wheel is currently fitted but the original comes with the car. Externally, much of the chrome trim has been replaced, new rear lights fitted and the wheels have been refurbished with new tyres all rounds. Mechanically, the main jobs include overhaul of the brakes including a new servo, replacing the overdrive with a reconditioned unit and a new fuel tank and pump have been fiteed. New batteries and a new alternator have also been fitted. All this and more is detailed in invoices running to several thousand pounds together with a disc full of photographs of the work in progress. The car has been fully serviced and the engine has been set up for us by John Midwood of AJ Restorations, one of the South West's most highly regarded MG specialists. It is now running very sweetly. The MGC has finally emerged from the shadows to become one of the most sought-after models. The smooth six makes it a true grand tourer, offering relaxed high speed cruising. It is also a great looking car, especially in this classic colour combination, with the distinctive bonnet bulge and bigger 15" wheels setting it apart from the MGB, The next lucky owner will get all this and the benefit of the massive investment in the car both recently and in the past.
