Description

MRT Jaguar 1953 This Jaguar Special was built in the 50-ies by Mr. M. R. Tomlinson from Sutton Coldfield based on the partial chassis legs and mechanics of a 1953 XK120 (chassis: 667056) and is believed to be the only remaining example of 5 identical sports-racing cars built by Mr. Tomlinson. Following very closely the design and layout of the then contemporary Jaguar C-Type, Mr. Tomlinson designed a multi-tubular chassis frame which he grafted onto the front section of the XK120 chassis legs comprising the entire front suspension. The multi link rear suspension was obtained from Jaguar racing driver and D-type technical adviser Dick Protheroe. The body was bought from Richard Shattock of Tojeiro Jaguar and moreover RGS Atalanta fame. Shattock took a mould from John Heaths first racing HWM Jaguar and reproduced the body in fibre glass and sold such body units to independent manufacturers. The body on this car is one of these original RGS items, of which very few remain. This MRT Jaguar was used competitively throughout the 50s and 60s in the UK at venues including Silverstone, Curborough, Church Lawford, Thurnhill, Thruxton, Weston Super Mare, Greenham Common, etc... I found this sports-racing Jaguar approx. 5 years ago in the hands of one of my very good English classic car friends who has a reputation for collecting unusual historic cars. It was clear this MRT Jaguar retired from racing quite a long time ago. My classic car workshop started a complete but sympathetic restoration respecting as much as possible the originality of this very rare sports-competition Jaguar for a very enthusiast current owner. When we finished this restoration last year my collaborators were understandably very keen to go and test this MRT Jaguar on a race-track. As could be expected we were all very much impressed by this very effective sports racer! Not surprising with the very advantageous power to weight ratio (standard but blue printed 6 cylinder 3.4 L engine fed by 2 HD8 SU carburettors + full flow sport exhaust - very light tubular chassis and fibre glass + alloy body). This MRT Jaguar comes with a nice history file and British registration documents. If necessary, we could supply the necessary FIA documents. Price: 320.000 euro
