This very attractive Brighton Run eligible car on chassis number 17 with engine number 546 H appears to have been first registered in Holland in early 1903 and comes with Veteran Car Club dating certificate number 2162 which was issued on 22nd September 1977. In the absence of any comments to the contrary on the dating certificate I am assuming that the car is original, it certainly looks like it is apart from a coil and distributor ignition system which has replaced its original magneto though no doubt you could reverse this change if you wanted to. The car has a strong twin cylinder 12 hp engine of 1698 cc capacity mated to a four speed and reverse gearbox. It has a conventional pedal layout with a steering column mounted hand throttle and a dash-board mounted advance/retard lever. It has an exhaust gas pressurised dash-board mounted oiler supplemented by front and rear wick type oilers for the crankshaft bearings. The engine starts very easily, usually on the first or second swing of the handle, then settles to a nice quiet tickover. Like all engines of this age it goes better if it is allowed to warm up before moving off and once you are on the road it soon becomes obvious that the car has plenty of power on tap. It is particularly nice to drive, helped in no small measure by its very easy to use gearbox and its strong brakes. Overall the car is in very good condition throughout with a sound chassis and body combined with mechanicals which appear to be in very good order. It is very smartly presented with a good quality paint finish, nice interior leather, lots of good quality brasswork and nice lights plus smart front and rear tonneau covers and a decent set of tyres so all in all its ready to go Brighton or anywhere else you fancy. Twin cylinder Brighton cars are increasingly in demand as the extra power over single cylinder cars is very noticeable, especially in a 12 hp model like this which is quite possibly as rapid as some four cylinder cars but doesnt command the same price so you get very good value for your money.
