Registration Number: J989 OPK Chassis Number: ZFFLA40C000092428 Although the most popular Ferrari of the 1980s and, indeed, the best-selling Ferrari of all time was the 308 series, arguably the most iconic Ferrari of that decade was the Testarossa, at the time the fastest production car in the world. Until the F40 came along, to celebrate Ferrari's 40th anniversary, no car could touch it. Even standing still, the Testarossa looks outlandish, with a knife-edge Pininfarina aluminium body, wild egg-slicer side grilles and high-mounted side view mirrors. The Le Mans-style rear-engined Ferrari, its flat V-12 engine producing a potent 77 horsepower per cylinder could easily clock sub-five-second 0-to-60 times and reach 180 mph. 512 TR was a natural successor with the central objective of a more powerful engine derived from the incredible F40. Using their wealth of experience and knowledge of fluid dynamics, the Ferrari engineers redesigned the engine intake manifolds, cylinder heads and camshafts and coupled the engine to an integrated electronic fuel-injection system, thereby allowing for continuous operation of the engine at 7,250rpm (redline 7,400rpm). The gearbox was also improved, while other mechanical improvements were incorporated such as aluminium alloy steering joints and lightweight springs. Performance figures now read 0-60mph in 4.8 seconds and a top speed of 192mph. Externally the Ferrari featured new trapezoidal air-intake scoops, a body coloured front spoiler integral with the bumper, rear deck with integral air intake slots, dual-coloured rear lights and redesigned 18 inch wheels. The interior was also restyled and featured newly designed seats, centre instrument binnacle, instrumentation and silk-screen anti-glare front windshield among other improvements. Ferrari is back where it belongs, making the finest supercar in production. This goes beyond the best engine there is, past its superb handling and massive presence and visits those places where supercars rarely venture. It's quiet, comfortable and amazingly easy to drive. The Autocar Road Test, July 1992. The power and look of the 512 TR guaranteed its success--it was a car the rich and famous wanted to be seen in. This example was purchased new from Maranello by Sir Elton John. In his ownership, a remarkable 1812 miles only were covered by the car, the car was always however, subject to an annual service. It is well known that Elton drove all 28 of the cars in his collection on a regular basis, and gave rides to many other dignitaries and celebrities before they were auctioned off by Christies in 2001. The 512on offer here sold for ??98,000 at the time and passed to its current owner. Having covered a mere 2,100 miles from new, this 512 TR is still reported to be in pristine condition. Finished in the stunning Rosso Corsa with complementary beige interior, it comes with a complete service history and a letter of ownership authenticity from Sir Elton. Most recently this year it has been serviced at Meridian Ferrari where it has had its cambelts replaced. This must be the lowest mileage 512 TR available on the market today, with exceptional ownership provenance. With Ferrari prices continuing to rise this car offers the opportunity for a real blue chip investment. Unique.
