Registration Number: Italian Registered Chassis Number: 224393 Fiat had great success with the compact 509 series and the 514 was its successor. The car was made for all sorts of purposes including taxis, trucks not to mention normal berlina's but Fiat also developed a couple of special versions for gentleman racers, called the 514 S, the 514 Mille Miglia and the 514 Coppa delli Alpi, the names 'Mille Miglia' and 'Coppa delli Alpi' coming from the races where the 514 had huge success. They all had lightweight 2-seater bodies sometimes by specialist coach builders. The normal 514 was made in about 36,000 examples where as the race versions where extremely rare. The 514 Berlina had a 28 horsepower, 148cc single carburettor side valve engine and the 514 MM and Coppa delli Alpi had a 37 horse power version of the side valve engine. The car we have on offer today is however a 514 out of the ordinary. It has one of the extremely rare Siata cylinder heads that Siata made for clients who were not content with the performance of their competition cars. Siata was at this time the best tuner of sports cars around, similar to what Abarth became postwar. It is an over head valve conversion and as this car is also Siata bodied it was probably all completed by Siata. The conversion gave this car maybe another 10-15 horsepower over the normal 514 MM or CdA's. The cylinder head today is absolutely impossible to find and we believe there is only one other 514 fitted with a Siata over head valve head. This car was consequently very competitive and went on to win the Coppa delli Alpi event outright in 1933 with a well known Count driving. Fiat decided to rename the Mille Miglia cars which they produced after this win to Coppa delli Alpi to celebrate the victory at the event. Chassis number 224393 went on to take part in many events prior to the war of which provide a full list is supplied. During the last 20 years the car has taken part in more than 7 historic Mille Miglia rallies and the current owner is actually asked by the Mille Miglia committee to take part every year hence there would be no problem whatsoever to get an entry in the famous and prestigious rally. This is a once in lifetime opportunity to acquire a very historically significant Fiat and a very nice and comfortable entry to the worlds most prestigious events.
