Towards the end of the 1960s, the V12-engined Ferraris are widely acclaimed for their performances and their design. Yet, their price tag does not allow the cars to compete with more affordable alternative and the Porsche 911 starts to emerge as a serious rival. Enzo Ferrari refused that this innovating car bore the Prancing Horse emblem, giving it instead the Dino moniker, a tribute to his son who had died in the late 1950s. With its 2-liter, rear-mounted V6 engine, the Dino 206 was not the first Dino car; Alfredo "Dino" Ferrari had largely contributed to the creation of the 1958 Dino F1's V6 engine. By 1969, customers were asking for more power. The Dino's engine grew to 2.4 liter, power climbed to 195 bhp and the Dino 246 was born. Offered as the GT coupe, then in 1971 as the targa GTS, the Dino 246 is a success. It became Ferrari's best-selling car in history, with more than 3,000 units built in only 5 years. The car we are offering for sale is a superb 1973 Dino 246 GT. Particularly sound and well preserved, this Dino 246 GT is an original LHD Euro model with the 195 bhp engine (USA models lost 20 bhp due to local restrictions). While the history of the car is undocumented, it appears that it was first delivered in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where it resided until the late 1980s. From 1979 to 1988, it was the owned by Ricardo Cosac, a well-known businessman and semi-professional racer, who participated in many championships until 2005. This Dino 246 GT is then imported in Italy in the early 1990s and is registered in Milan in 1991. The current owner purchased the car in 1993. Used regularly until 2005, it shows a little over 60,000 km on the clock, which is likely to be original given the quality of the car. The mechanics have recently been thoroughly checked and do not need any specific work. The frame is very sound and free of rust. The interior is perfectly preserved, a rare feature since the leatherette in Dino cars is particularly fragile. The paintwork is old and this Dino 246 GT would only benefit from a complete, high-quality respray. The Dinos 246 GT are amongst the most desirable cars in today's market, thanks to their usability and handling. Recent auction results have shown the Dinos are more popular than ever and will represent a safe investment for pleasure and financially. Our Dino 246 GT is immediately available in Italy with its Italian registration.
