“The Beast”. Built by a GM technician circa 1970, frequently displayed at the Road America Corvette Corral in the 1970's, then hidden from public view for 30-years. The car is drastically lightened, the goal was the ultimate power-to-weight ratio in a street driven Corvette. The lightened and simplified body features a fixed roof, one piece tilting front end, Plexiglas rear window, and fixed headlamps under Plexiglas. The fully trimmed lightweight interior features fixed-position racing seats and deletion of heavy parts including radio, heater, sound deadener, and park brake components. The car retains rare L-88 / ZL-1 specific parts such as the HD aluminum radiator and surge tank, transistorized distributor, and a 1967 L-88 road draft tube instead of the 68-69 pcv valve. Rocker covers and oil pan are finished in matte black for maximum heat dissipation without adding the weight of an oil cooler. The last addition to the car was around 1980 when a hidden MSD box was installed to power the GM transistorized distributor. Trans is a M22 case with M20 wide ratio gears for good low end gearing combined with a 3.70 axle ratio suitable for cruising. In addition to traveling to racetracks and shows the car was driven 1000 miles to Denver for sale to its second owner in 1982. The wiper motor and related parts were reinstalled at that time. The weight is now estimated to be around 2700 pounds.
