Take a close look at this Mustang. Yes it is in fantastic shape, yes it has only 54k miles, and yes it runs great. But there's more that sets this car apart, as it is a very rare Mustang. It is a 1984-1/2 20th anniversary edition hatchback equipped with Ford's 2.3 liter fuel injected turbo motor.

How rare is this car? Of the nearly 150,000 Mustangs produced in 1984, only 5,261 were 20th anniversary edition cars. However, as the 5.0 engine was used in most of these cars, a mere 362 were turbo hatchbacks. Note these were only produced with the 5-speed manual transmission.

And while a rare Mustang is always a nice collectible, this car's value is further enhanced by its low mileage, documentation, and overall condition. This car has three owners to date (same owner since 1999) and has logged only 54k miles. Included are the original window sticker, dealer invoice, and owners packet. The original warranty ID card and matching center console plaque are all intact, as is the dash 20th anniversary badge (which often went missing on these cars). Everything is in great operating condition as well.

The body of the car is nice and straight, free of any dents or rust issues. It has never seen a winter. The original paint is in fine condition with only typical wear for a car of this mileage. Of course, the car still has its GT350 rocker trim (which Mr. Shelby did not appreciate). The wheels are from a 1993 with Dunlop tires and the original exhaust was recently replaced.

The red interior is in mint condition which is very unusual for a Mustang of this vintage. The fabric is not faded, stained, or torn. The dash, headliner, carpet, and door panels are all excellent; I've literally seen 2010 models with more wear. And as a bonus, this car has a magnificent sound system. The last owner installs systems professionally and gave this one his finest touch, with over $3,000 in components (Pioneer, Focal, PPI, JL, Xtant) and an impeccable installation. Nothing was cut up and all original parts are included, so everything can be returned to stock if desired. Also included is an alarm with keyfob and remote door locks.

When it comes to rare Mustangs, this may not be the fastest or most powerful of the breed. But this is also nowhere near the price of such other cars, making this car a great investment today. And frankly you would have an easier time finding a 1969 Shelby GT350 convertible (194 produced) than another Mustang like this.
