Restored less than 2000 miles ago. Matching numbers 440/4-speed. Beautiful, solid, fast GTX with no stories.

Aside from a wheel swap and a set of yellow lenses on the high beams, this car is exactly the way the factory built it, albeit vastly nicer in every way. Stripped to a bare shell, it was rebuilt from the sheetmetal up to create a car that’s almost too nice to drive (which is why it’s for sale). The car was exceptionally clean when work started, and experts will note that the quarters still wear their original factory undercoating in the trunk, proof of their authenticity. Panel gaps are extremely good all around, most certainly nicer than original given the limitations of the assembly line environment, and you can tell someone was sweating the little stuff when this one was assembled. The paint is two-stage urethane that accurately captures the Dark Green Metallic but gives it a shine that nobody could have imagined in 1967, and out in the sun it’s simply dazzling. All the chrome and stainless was restored as well, making the brightwork sparkle against the dark green body like jewelry.

Black buckets with fresh upholstery from Legendary show correct detailing, with only the driver’s seat showing any appreciable use. New black carpets, a fresh headliner, and correct door panels were also installed, so the interior looks virtually new in every way. A column-mounted tach and the usual under-dash auxiliary gauges were installed, two common upgrades that enhance the driving experience and are easily removed if points judging is something you’d like to pursue. The 4-speed manual gearbox wears a Hurst shifter with cue ball knob, all framed in a beautifully restored center console. Open the trunk and you’ll find a reproduction mat and a correct jack assembly, as well as rust-free floors and quarters, all of which show no signs of previous issues. There’s no doubt this is an ultra-clean car.

Rebuilt by Muscle Car Enterprises about 2000 miles ago, the 440 Super Commando cackles and snarls like you’d expect from one of the most potent machines from an era where they were ALL potent. Receipts document the rebuild, which was done to mostly stock specs, although the heads were thoroughly reworked, there’s an Mopar Performance camshaft inside, and fresh pistons were stuffed into the bores. There’s also a high-volume oil pump, new oil pan and pickup, fresh timing chain set, and, of course, new rings, bearings, and gaskets throughout. Up front there are new fuel and water pumps, and up top an Edelbrock carb is about the only deviation from stock, but it’s stashed under the original air cleaner. All the cosmetic items were attended to, including Chrysler Turquoise paint, proper wrinkle finish paint on the air cleaner, and a reproduction red-cap battery to light the fires. It starts quickly and easily, idling with a very threatening burble from the polished tailpipes out back, and it pulls like a freight train through all four gears thanks to 3.54 gears and a Sure Grip in the Dana 60 out back. The original Magnum 500 wheels were replaced by a set of flashy vintage Cragars, which carry 215/70/15 BFG white-letter radials.

Fast, fun, and downright beautiful to look at, this GTX is a reasonably-priced piece of Mopar muscle that still has the juice on the street.
