A very interesting project originally done for our own use but now for sale What we have learned in selling hundreds and hundreds of MGBs, IF I wanted the best all around touring car, I would combine the best of early Bs and later Bs, And this is what just finished. Starting with a rust free Georgia 1980 MGB, perfect floors, rockers, sills, etc. Properly working overdrive and original dealer installed air conditioning. One of the last built in April 1980. now with 76,000 original miles. In this car's case, stripped to the bare metal by its last owner, painted in a deep dark blue base coat/clear coat arcylic and hand wet sanded and buffed, Excellent drive train (75 psi oil pressure when warm, no smoke under any conditions), all new hydraulics and brakes, new fuel tank, new convertible top. AND work we just finished............. A complete, professional chrome bumper conversion using all new parts (chrome, grille, brackets, hardware), all cutting and welding work done in our restoration shop. Elimination of side lights (with holes welded and smoothed over). Rebuilt front end with new springs and bushings, lowered back to pre 1975 ride height, new front springs. All new wire wheel hubs and a good set of wire wheels, sandblasted, primered, and painted in the proper color. Wood dashboard, wood steering wheel, new tan carpets, new premium tan interior panels (with matching leather door tops and arm rests), a beautiful pair of tan leather low back seats (as used in Bs before 1969), hand done, NOT kits and very soft leather, new tonneau, and............ New stereo/CD with USB input, new speakers and antenna, new 3 point belts, alloy rocker cover. Why bother? Because the later model Bs are really superior cars. Front AND rear sway bars, servo assist disc brakes, superior cooling (electric cooling fans), electronic ignition, in my mind the best looking of all MGB dashboards, better shifting, smoother engines, better heat and ventilation, the product of eighteen years of MGB production. And to add to all of this, converted from the single Stromberg carb to superior Weber carb and a far better exhaust manifold. All in all, the result (which we have done countess times for customers) is a superior MGB and, in this car's case, with the added delights of pre 1969 body (by eliminating the side lights), pre 1969 interior (with the low back seats), air conditioning and overdrive. And now finished and tested. All we can say is that we don't doubt that there are some fantastic better MGBs lurking in the corners of the country but, NOT THAT MUCH better. 'Cause this is one fantastic MGB. Call for more details
