In from someone we known in Michigan, a beautiful B 'hybrid' that offers most of the best of the early and newer MGBs. Excellent body and floor pan, very clean red paint, just underwent a comprehensive chrome bumper conversion using new chrome bumpers and trim parts, excellent engine (145 psi compression in every cylinder, 75+ psi oil pressure when warm, no smoke under any circumstances, 87k original miles, completely rebuilt front end (and all painted and detailed), lowered to pre 1975 ride height, new springs, new front bushings, all new wire wheel splines and chrome knock offs, new wood dash and wood steering wheel, new carpets, very good seats and interior panels, new Pioneer stereo/CD with USB input, new convertible top, tonneau, very clean trunk compartment, new shocks, new brakes. and just underwent a full service. NOW.......out on the road, kind of a surprise. While we generally convert every single-carb B to twin SUs or a Weber, this car is sufficiently quick to not seem to require replacement. I was so surprised, I asked our chief mechanic (a proper Englishman who drove HIS rubber bumper, single carb B to work that day). And we both agreed...'why bother?' His assessment? He used to work for Chrysler UK and mentioned that some cars he would take on the test track and were dogs. While others of the same make, model, and year was much quicker. Who can say? This particular MGB really goes. Everything works better than you can imagine. For some (unknown reason) these later cars are FAR better than earlier Bs. Feels smoother, better trans, 'tighter' and with better ride, and this late model car has lots of extras....twin thermostatically controlled cooling fans, electronic ignition, front and rear swar bars, servo assist brakes. AND the nicest of all MGB dashboards, more modern controls, better cooling and electrical systems..........a nice little classic MGB. VERY enjoyable. And ready for sale.
