This 1949 Buick creation has managed to turn simply subtle into simply spectacular. For custom car building legend Justin Hills, he wanted this, his personal car, to reflect the Harley Earl influenced design style bringing back an era that has been long gone. This is a true example of a one of a kind creative build simply called Art-Deco.
The builder started with an excellent example of a stock 1949 Buick Sedanette and began the process of disassembling it piece by piece. He then completely rebuilt every mechanical component of the car. The 263 ci straight 8 is complete with Fireball Dyna Flash Eight rocker cover, 3 speed manual column shift, and 4-wheel drum brakes. She sits atop a 49 Buick platform, C-notched and filled with Fatman spindles and Firestone air springs, and the rear 49 Buick quarters were modified just enough to tie it all together. Subtle design changes are found throughout and she’s frenched, smoothed, and shaved. The lines of this custom fastback are shear perfection from its slightly peaked hood with subtle lowered roofline to its slightly angled B pillars, a feat that many custom builders have failed to accomplish but this builder got it just right maintaining a visually stunning sweeping flow from front to back. The car then received a mirror gloss black finish with a complimentary red on red interior integrating snakeskin leather inserts here and there to stylishly modernize the look. With restored original gauges, steering wheel, door handles and window cranks the inside retains the style of the past, and the exterior reflects what could have been… and then some. Absolute automotive perfection.
