If you want a classic British roadster, this 1980 MGB is just about the latest you can own and still get the authentic experience. With just 61,385 original miles, this unmolested survivor shows you that even the end of the line for MG was pretty special. MG knew they were done, at least in the US, so for 1980 they built special editions that featured black paint, a unique front bumper with chin spoiler, and silver graphics to commemorate the occasion. This particular roadster wears its original black paint, and its condition is rather remarkable for being more than 30 years old. It has great gloss, not like youd expect from something built in the dark days of the late 1970s, but rather what youd find on a cherished heirloom that has always been treated with a great deal of respect. The MGB shape was a triumph of minimalist engineering, and in this final iteration, it shows off well with a trunk rack, chrome windshield, and distinctive taillights that were part of the MG look for decades. Even the controversial rubber nose cone takes on an aggressive look when fitted with a chin spoiler, and graphics along the rockers give it a sleek look and highlight its British origins. Classic tan upholstery, this time in durable leatherette, provides the perfect contrast to the black bodywork. A big part of the MGBs appeal is in its comfortable passenger compartment, which somehow manages to be both compact and roomy, with enough room for real-sized adults to spend a lot of time. The upholstery is also 100% original, which demonstrates how much care this car has received as well as the relatively decent quality of the materials. This B is interesting in that it has zero factory options, unusual in a special edition model, but there werent many creature comforts to be had. In fact, the new owner will be grateful for the aftermarket A/C, which works properly, unlike the factory-installed system which only managed to blow tepid air across your legs. Theres also an upgraded Pioneer AM/FM/cassette stereo that wasnt there in 1979, so this MGB is ready for next summers road trip. Combined with an easy-to-fold black convertible top, matching black boot, and a reasonably-sized trunk, this MGB will make a fantastic travel partner. The same 1798cc inline-four that powers all late MGBs can be found under the hood. With a rorty exhaust note and a willingness to rev, the little four perfectly lives up to the ideals set by British roadster enthusiasts where the entire experience should be measured, not just performance numbers. The sound of the engine, the slickness of the 4-speed gearbox, and the ability to use much of the cars performance envelope without posing a grave danger to those around you are some of this cars many virtues. The engine bay remains clean and well-maintained, and the A/C system was professionally installed. Underneath, its in great shape, showing none of the usual MG maladies and solid rocker panels, plus more evidence of its originality. Special alloy wheels remain in place, each wearing a properly-sized 185/70/14 Goodyear radial. A neat car with a cult following, the MGB is affordable fun that, like the VW Beetle, has become part of our cultural history. Call today! This vehicle is located in our Dallas/Fort Worth showroom.
