Subtle customs sparkle when the details are right, just like on this ultra-smooth 1962 Chevy II convertible. The inky black paint and beautiful interior will catch your attention, but this is one of those cars where the longer you look, the more there is to discover. The tidy Chevy II was a more traditional approach to the compact car wars of the time, and in contrast to the Corvair, it could be optioned up with a V8 engine and plenty of tire-smoking performance. Its also quite a good looking car, restrained and smooth, with styling that echoes some of its big brothers in the GM stable. At any rate, this one looks dynamite in high gloss black, but lets look closer. Note that the door handles have been shaved, as well as much of the chrome trim and emblems, then it was topped off with a cowl-induction hood. Someone spent weeks blocking the bodywork to get it as straight as humanly possible, and it shows. The slick look doesnt alter the basic goodness of the design, but youll probably find it has a lot of admirers who will ask just what kind of car it is. Pretty cool to be both unusual and trick at the same time, dont you think? More custom touches inside, where the bucket seats have been upholstered with a combination of cloth, vinyl, and leather to create a comfortable, stylish driving environment that still looks right in the 50-year-old body. A billet wheel was clearly inspired by the 57 Bel Airs wheel, and lives atop a tilt column. Three round instruments monitor the engines vitals and look awesome, while an AM/FM/cassette stereo head unit has been stuffed into the original AM radios slot. Black carpets, a painted dash thats as glossy as the bodywork, and custom gray tweed door panels give it a highly polished look thats both comfortable and show quality. The black top looks virtually new and includes a matching black boot, while the trunk has been fully upholstered in matching black carpet. Thanks to the wonder that is the small block Chevy, that 350 cubic inch crate motor slides right in and looks ideal in the black engine bay. Traditional Chevy Orange covers the block, heads, intake, and valve covers, which are neatly finished stockers that now have a trick custom look. Billet pullies, an Edelbrock 4-barrel, and block-hugging headers add some performance, and the fresh dual exhaust has a mellow sound that plays in wonderful stereo out on the open road. A 700R4 4-speed automatic overdrive transmission means this car will cruise with effortless ease at speeds thatll get you a massive ticket in all 50 states and still pull down decent gas mileage. The floors are spotless, suggesting that this car was rotisserie restored and only used occasionally once it was finished. It sits right and those gorgeous chrome Epic wheels with 235/40/18 radials eliminate fender gaps.
