Introduced in 1963, the Jaguar XKE was an instant sensation. Beautiful, sleek, aerodynamic, efficient, it also was fast and, well, sexy too. Road and Tracks veteran writer Henry N. Manney III christened it, The greatest crumpet-catcher known to man. The Series II was more refined, with more flexible 4,265cc engine, fully synchronized 4-speed gearbox, more comfortable seats, upgraded interior appointments and a few other changes brought about by evolving regulations on lighting and passive safety equipment. This is a particularly attractive 1970 4-speed Series II XKE roadster finished in metallic maroon with black upholstery, black vinyl soft top and a black factory hardtop that gives it a distinctive presence recalling the lightweight E-types that raced at Le Mans. It is a solid, honest car, not fully restored but equally never needing restoration, with good paint, chrome and interior that sits proudly on chrome wire wheels. It has been repainted from its original red, runs and drives well and is a solid, attractive car that would make a great driver.
