Description

If youre like most of us gearheads you remember the days when modifying your hot rod meant removing extra parts, cutting a little metal and hammering out a few new curves. But as time progresses, technology progresses; and what once existed as merely a backyard hobby has now grown into a hyper competitive, multi-million dollar industry. Today, unless you have a decade and deep pockets to spare, it takes a serious plan and a team of highly skilled craftsmen to even think about competing with the hobbys best builds. And when it comes to planning and craftsmanship, it simply doesnt get much better than Alloways Hot Rod Shop. Envisioned by well-known street rod guru Paul Sheppard, and built by Bobby Alloway himself, this slick 32 Ford Vicky is a world class custom thatll fulfill your needs faster, and cheaper, than any car youve spent years idealizing. And whats better: with names like Atkins, Cooper, Rats Glass, BM, Heidts and Winters on its specs sheet, you know this magazine featured award winner is built to outlast and outperform just about anything on the road. If youre looking for a head-turning classic thatll hold its own at any show in the country, youve found your next trophy queen!

With most street rods, theres usually a single piece that catches your eye long before anything else. But on this Vicky, EVERY piece screams for your attention. So the best thing to do is just step back and admire the shape of its Rats Glass body. Weve featured a handful of these Alloway-designed cars before, and the extended Vicky roofline gives them such a unique flavor that theyre all instantly recognizable. Of course, youve all heard of Alloway, right? You know, the shop responsible for building Americas Most Beautiful Roadster in 2003 and a few strong Ridler contenders since. With a modified Speedstar body thats been completely reworked around a traditional 32 Vicky grille, this is the kind of car that would turn heads in black primer; and what better way to ensure sore neck muscles than covering it with some of the brightest DuPont available? A slick combination of Honda Milano Red and Mercedes Silver was chosen for the job and performs its task remarkably well. And when the cars 13 layers of paint dried, finishing touches included green and pink pinstripes that flank a yellow and orange divider stripe. If this car doesnt stand out from the crowd, youre probably in Alloways parking lot!

Of course, a dramatic body doesnt necessarily make up for terrible detailing. And this well-executed Ford strikes an excellent balance between unique custom design and the monochromatic style of modern hot rodding. At the front of the car, a clean stainless grille hangs between Modern PIAA headlights and integrated LED turn signals. At the top of the car, a custom hood runs to a modified firewall, a chopped roof and completely smoked glass. At the sides of the car, a characteristically clean and simple profile is, thanks to shaved door handles and hidden door hinges, cluttered by absolutely nothing. And at the back of the car, a custom LED tail light rides above a completely retractable tag bracket. Theres certainly no mistaking an Alloways gothic shape, but this coupe has an identity all its own thanks to a cohesive theme, careful workmanship and exceptional attention to detail.

Pry this coupes snug fitting hood open and youll find a fully detailed 468 cubic inch big block V8 that was professionally assembled by David Cooper of Knoxville, Tennessee. Straight from the bench this killer package utilizes a forged steel crank, forged steel connecting rods, 12.5 to 1 pistons and polished Edelbrock aluminum heads to create roughly 550 horsepower of unmatched throttle response. At the top of the body-matched mill, air flows through a polished cleaner to a reusable filter element thats perched above a 750 cfm Demon carburetor and a series of fresh stainless fuel lines. A resulting air/fuel mixture makes its way from a polished intake to the aforementioned heads, which are topped with a slick pair of polished valve covers. When those heads flood the engines cylinder banks, an MSD Pro-Billet distributor sequences fire through loomed Taylor plug wires while spent gases are jettisoned through coated Sanderson shorty headers. The big engines cooling is provided by a polished radiator thats fitted with a large electric puller fan and topped by a small chrome cap. Charging comes courtesy of a polished alternator that, along with a polished water pump, is spun by aesthetically pleasing pulleys. And overall the cars clean, body-matched engine compartment is exceptionally well done, featuring details like polished hood hardware, a Mooneyes temperature gauge, braided throttle linkage covers and a chrome timing chain cover.

As with its tight build, this Fords custom chassis was supplied by Alloways Hot Rods in Knoxville, Tennessee. The big 468s power flows into a rugged BM Turbo-Hydramatic 350 3-speed thats fitted with a 3,000 RPM stall converter. That proven transmission spins stout 4.11 gears via a painted driveshaft and a polished Winters Quick Change rear end. In front of those brightly finished components, a polished Heidts independent suspension features tubular control arms, adjustable coil over shocks, Sweet rack and pinion steering and polished Wilwood calipers. Behind that fully sorted front clip, a polished, independent rear suspension features a second set of adjustable coil overs, two transverse links and a second pair of polished Wilwood calipers. Exhaust is handled by custom 3 inch pipes that have been coated and mandrel bent around small glasspack-style mufflers. And all that mirror-like hardware rolls on a gorgeous set of custom Boyd Coddington wheels which spin 215/45R17 BF Goodrich radials in front of 275/55R20 BF Goodrich radials. Every non-polished surface under this car has been covered in a glossy coat of Honda Milano Red and, as with its engine bay, massaged to red carpet standards. And details like a retracting tag bracket, braided brake lines and a clean master cylinder ensure pretty form is matched by plenty of function.

Open this Fords suicide doors and youll find a tasteful custom interior that was installed by Paul Atkins of Hanceville, Alabama. Four modern leather buckets are supportive, feel soft enough to take a nap on, and appear to tilt the passengers, no doubt accounting for the cars svelte roofline. At the sides of those seats, custom door and quarter panels hang small, sculpted armrests next to metal-grilled speakers. In front of those panels, a body-matched dash centers white Auto Meter gauges above a custom leather firewall cover and two billet foot pedals. At the base of that dash, a body-length console, which elegantly meanders between all four of the previously mentioned seats, anchors a small Lokar shifter on high quality, silver carpet. Opposite that console, a custom cloth headliner adds a fine finishing touch. And in front of the driver, a color-keyed billet steering wheel spins around a painted tilt steering column.

Fully sorted and ready to turn your dreams into reality, this awesome little Vicky carries exactly the kind of cool swagger every car builder dreams about. From its subtle exterior to its mind-blowing interior and top notch engine, there simply arent many nicer customs out there. Cars like this usually leave our showroom in a hurry so, if youre in the market for a full show car thats an absolute blast to own, dont miss out on this cool 32 Ford!
