Description

Go to any car show and youll see rows of Camaros and Mustangs and Chevelles, but if you yearn to be the guy with something few have ever seen, then try showing up with this awesome 1959 El Camino. The debut year of Chevys truck/car makes an awesome statement thats all about cool. To put it simply, this car has got the look. The 1959 Chevys were radical machines, but none stands out like the El Camino. All the outrageous details make the transition to the pickup completely intact, from the eyebrows over the headlights to the gullwing fins out back. With such dramatic sheetmetal, the charcoal gray paint on this one creates a bit of cognitive dissonance with a low-key look that lets the styling do all the talking. Restored several years ago, it has been driven and enjoyed, but also properly maintained so it still shows well. Those sweeping quarter panels are straight enough to use for geometry lessons and the gaps are tight, indicating a car that hasnt been wrecked. The paint has a great shine and while there are a few chips in the finish, overall it gives the impression of a competent, well-built street machine that needs no excuses. All the trim is in place and shows well, including the unique El Camino script on the front fenders and the cats eye taillights, and the bed is neatly finished with a spray-in bedliner. Behind those tinted windows theres a nicely finished bench seat interior. Not restored to stock, it offers cloth upholstery thats a lot more comfortable than the original vinyl, and it works with the subtle overall vibe that this car gives off. Matching light gray carpets keep it bright inside despite those tinted windows, and the original steering wheel is just about the only reminder that this car is almost 55 years old. The original speedo is in the center of the dash, plus modern instruments in the original pods for a clean look, and the A/C has been neatly installed underneath where it stays mostly out of sight. A newer AM/FM/CD stereo has been cleverly installed in the original slot and uses factory-style knobs so it blends in. The great thing about early Chevys built with 283s is that a new 350 cubic inch crate motor will slide right in. Wearing an Edelbrock intake and 4-barrel carburetor, a few chrome dress-up pieces, and a bunch of power options, this Elky is transformed into an easy cruiser, not a fussy old car. The workmanship under the hood is professional, and you can tell they cared about keeping it easy to service with good access and parts that are easy to source at any parts store. The A/C uses R134a refrigerant, theres a new dual master cylinder with power booster, and original-style power steering that makes parking lot maneuvers a breeze. Its backed by a TH350 3-speed automatic driving the original rear end, and the dual exhaust system features glasspack-style mufflers for a great vintage sound. The chassis is quite clean and straight, and it sits right on a set of Centerline wheels with 225/75/15 whitewall radials for a period look. Rare cars are always cool, but the way this El Camino is put together, it was built to be especially entertaining for the driver. Call today! This vehicle is located in our Atlanta showroom.
