Description

Lately weve been seeing a nice uptick in the market for clean 70s luxury cars. A lot of guys grew up with cars like this 1972 Lincoln Continental Mark IV, and today they represent more sheetmetal for the dollar than just about anything else on four wheels. Born in Texas and raised in Florida, this bright Gold Moondust Metallic Mark is incredibly clean and straight, and shows evidence of careful maintenance throughout its 40 year life. Quite honestly, the photos in our studio dont show off the paint, because out in the sun it has a wonderful glow, and if youre a fan of the 70s (and if youre looking to own a car like this, I think you qualify) youll understand that the color totally works on the gothic Lincoln sheetmetal. As I said, its extremely straight without a ripple or botched repair anywhere, and while this is truly a mammoth car, the proportions give it a tasteful look that has aged quite well. A contrasting cream-colored vinyl top, complete with opera windows, is a replacement, but the contrast looks fantastic compared to the original brown half roof. The chrome is original and still in decent condition, but its important to remember than in 1972, production chrome was not what we expect today from our show cars, but it looks right against that vintage paint. The original leather interior remains in very good condition and delivers the kind of luxury youd hope from your 70s luxury cruiser. Even the drivers seat shows only light wear with no splits or tears in the leather. Thats the original shag carpet on the floor and in very good condition, the door panels are good except for some cracking on the drivers side armrest, and theres a new headliner overhead. The controls are very geometrically arranged in front of the driver, mostly for style over function, but this car includes niceties such as a tilt wheel, cruise control, A/C, power windows and locks, as well as power seats. The original AM/FM radio is gone, replaced by a newer AM/FM/CD unit that has been professionally installed so it looks right. The trunk is quite spacious, too, and includes the original mat and spare tire cover. Lincoln was all about effortless horsepower, and the big 460 cubic inch V8 delivers. It has a muscular idle that suggests plenty of blasting powder under the hood thanks to a new dual exhaust system, but it doesnt advertise like some boy racer might. Instead, it provides power to run all the power accessories without strain, and is equally happy to idle in traffic as it is to hammer across the desert towards Vegas at 80 MPH. A C6 3-speed automatic and a set of 2.73 gears mean that it just loafs along on the highway, and the suspension soaks up bumps like the springs are made of sponges. Later 1976 Continental alloy wheels have been fitted and look exactly right on the Mark IV body style, and wear 235/75/15 whitewall radials. With the original invoice and sales brochures, this car makes for a fun, inexpensive drier that is sure to bring back a lot of happy memories. Call today!
