The Pontiac Trans Am was one of the cars that defined the American “muscle car” era. Small wonder, then, that the announcement that Pontiac would make a limited production run of 7,500 10th Anniversary models was music to the ears of the collector car community. To separate the wolves from the sheep, these Special Edition Trans Ams were identified on their VINs with an “X”, thereby distinguishing them from the other 119,000 Trans Ams built that year.
Excellent Finishes
Special features on these 10th Anniversary Trans Ams included:
• Two-tone silver and charcoal paint;
• 5-color hood bird that extended over the hood to the fenders;
• Special black and red striping;
• Air conditioning;
• WS6 handling package;
• Custom silver upholstery with the Firebird emblem on the door panels and rear seat;
• Power disc brakes;
• Mirror finish on the T-tops; and
• “Turbo” wheel package.
Fully Refreshed Trans Am
Our 55,500 mile Trans Am looks and drives like new. The exterior has been refreshed with a very nice repaint in the factory colors. This car looks factory-fresh rather than a vehicle that was built 30+ years ago. Likewise, the owner spared no expense in rejuvenating the mechanical systems with a rebuild of the motor’s top end, installation of a performance intake and cam package, together with the transmission—all within the last 2,500 miles.
Runs like only a Trans Am Can!
These Pontiacs were by nature quick and this car is no exception. It is equipped with the 403 cu. in./6.6 liter engine and an automatic transmission. The engine starts right up and powers the car with tire-burning capability with its posi-traction rear end geared at 3.43. The transmission shifts smoothly and properly under all types of driving demands.
The gauges and instruments are functioning as are the lights, wipers and horn, although like most classic cars the clock will need work. And, of course, the air conditioning blows cold, although you may prefer to remove the T-tops and enjoy the fresh air. These 10th Anniversary cars were equipped with a red backlight for the instruments instead of the normal white, giving it a fighter cockpit feel during nighttime driving.
AND . . . it’s Fun!
With the 6.6 engine and the WS6 handling package, this is a fun car to drive. And with only 55,500 miles, it has the reliability that is often missing in a classic car. With the full complement of options—including air conditioning—it is a pleasure to drive. If you are looking for a special Trans Am, this 10th Anniversary model will fit the bill.
