AN IMPALA MUSCLE CAR? YOU BETCHA!
Normally the ’66 Impala isn’t the first car that comes to mind when we think of the ‘60s muscle cars, but this 427-4-speed caused us to change our thinking. This SS will easily run with the GTOs, the 442s and the Mopars and likely embarrass most of them.
This 427 is Blue Printed and Balanced
As nice as this car looks from the outside, it is the street-pounding 427 that gets your blood pumping and changes what had been a very quick 396-equipped car into a super-fast screamer. This 427 was bored .30 over, balanced and blueprinted with:
• Steel crankshaft,
• Roller rockers,
• Custom grind cam,
• Eagle H beam rods,
• Pete Jackson timing gears,
• Aluminum flywheel, and
• A 9.87 to 1 compression ratio.
The engine dyno readings showed 424 hp with the flowed Edelbrock Performer RPM aluminum heads and a Barry Grant Denison 850 carb. The engine exhausts through custom ceramic coated headers and a mandrel-bent Edelbrock 304 3” stainless exhaust system with dual side-outlet SS oval tips.
And, of course, a 4-speed
All this power drives through a HD clutch assembly, rebuilt factory Muncie M-21 4-speed manual transmission, new Hurst Super extended Shifter and a 12 bolt Eaton posi-traction rear end with Moser racing axels. The current rear axle ratio is 4:10 although this could be readily changed to a 3:73 were the new owner so inclined.
With Original Factory Colors
This Impala has been treated to a very nice respray in its original Bolero Red finish. The paint is shiny and bright without dents, chips or orange peel. The red exterior is complemented by its black vinyl interior which is in very good condition. As a true factory Super Sport, this car has bucket seats that add to its muscle car aura. All of the glass is in good condition and the windows function as they should. The chrome is in very nice condition.
Also included in this sale is the Original Factory Broadcast (build) sheet!
Tires, Wheels, Suspension and Brakes
Getting the 427’s power to the pavement, this Impala has four P255/60R15 Good Year Eagle GT tires, mounted on chrome Corvette rally wheels, that look as new.
Suspension and steering are excellent with a new steering box, SSM suspension including new coil springs, air bags and air shocks in the rear, heavy-duty front and rear sway bars and rear panhard bar.
Stopping the car is handled by power disc brakes front AND rear. They bring the Impala to a dead stop without shudder or pull. The gauges all work as does the safety equipment [lights, wipers, horn (weakly), etc. with the exception of the right turn signal, back-up lights and license light. Also, the original clock will need rebuilding, the heater blower needs to be checked and the antenna needs to be installed before one can assess the status of the radio.
Driving doesn’t get any better than this!!
This Impala SS will bring a grin to the face of even the most seasoned driver every time you start it and hear the distinctive exhaust of a big 427 getting ready to go. Everything about this car is right: a 427 engine, 4-speed Muncie and nice cosmetics for a wild driving experience. Definitely not for the faint-hearted. And, best of all: for less than the price of a new Honda. This is the kind of car that only comes along rarely. Don’t miss it!
