Description

No, this 1960 Thunderbird isnt white, but rather an unusual color combination of code M Corinthian White over code V Palm Springs Rose. Take a closer look and youll see the subtle contrast, and while few cars of this era can claim to be subtle, this T-Bird remains first-class transportation any way you look at it. Even by 1960, the bold pastels of the 50s were passing out of fashion, and quieter, more sophisticated colors were taking their place. In the same way, the 4-seater Thunderbird was a more grown-up vehicle, more practical but no less beautiful than the original 2-seater. Dramatic styling embraced sweeping elements stamped right into the sheetmetal, ranging from the curve that dips down through the doors to the pointed side streaks that need no chrome to emphasize the cars length. The finish of both the Palm Springs Rose and Corinthian White paint is excellent, and quite honestly it shows up more clearly under the sun rather than in our photo studio. The net result, however, is an unusual and classically elegant Thunderbird that you wont see very often, especially with the Continental kit out back to make it stand out from the crowd. All the chrome is in good shape, particularly the large bumper/grille assembly up front and the unique taillight surrounds peeking out from behind the spare tire out back. The handsome black and white interior is Ford design at its finest. The seat covers are in great condition, matching door panels, and black carpets give it a lot of personality, especially with that beautiful white steering wheel in the middle of it all. Forget fake wood and trim, in the 1960s, brushed stainless was king, and the textured dashboard, center stack, and door panel trim show off a variety of surfaces that youll never get tired of looking at from behind the wheel. The factory-issued AM radio remains in the dash, with factory A/C managed by the controls just underneath. The redesigned 4-seat Thunderbird carries everything youll need for a long road trip in a beautifully restored trunk, complete with mat, spare tire cover, and tool back, plus a full jack assembly. Yes, you can store a tire in the Continental kit, but why risk damaging it when theres so much extra room in the trunk? The original, numbers-matching 352 cubic inch V8 still powers this Bird, and it has been dressed to impress with chrome valve covers and air cleaner. The smooth-running V8 delivers impressive performance and effortless cruising, especially when linked to a 3-speed Cruise-O-Matic transmission and a set of 3.10 gears out back. New equipment includes the water pump and battery, and much of the front suspension has been recently rebuilt. The floors are impressively clean and solid, and theres a new gas tank out back as well as a great-sounding dual exhaust system. Obviously this car has never been rusty or even in need of major surgery, so it rides smoothly and confidently down the highway on G78-14 wide whites with great-looking hubcaps. With second-generation Thunderbirds coming into their own as collectors items, I wouldnt expect this unusual specimen with factory air to stick around for long. If this is your kind of ride, dont hesitate and call today! This vehicle is located in our Dallas/Fort Worth showroom. For more information, please call (817) 764-8000 or toll free (855) 877-2707.
