1968 Mercedes Benz 250

1968 Mercedes Benz 250. GREAT condition. This car was owned by the original owner for 42 years, he was a manager for Shell Oil Company and he purchased this car in Dallas Texas in 1968 and the car stayed in Greenacres, Washington in a heated garage most all of its life. He owned many cars in his life, but he would not part with this mostly hand built car. I was able to buy it because his widow told me she couldnt stand to look at it anymore it reminded her of her husband who passed away in 2010 and she did not want to learn to drive a stick shift anyway. This cars MSRP back in 1968 was 10,100. That kind of money back then was big dough, today that kind of money would be worth around 80,000 inflation adjusted. Just imagine the average cars in America were around 3,500 in 1968-- this car would have cost 3 times more money than cars of that era back then . I remember my parents bought an all-brick home in 1962 for a cost of 19,000 to 20,000 dollars. That will give you an idea how well this car was made. It is a real all steel car that is made very thick and heavy like a tank, and it cost a little less than half of an average house back in the time when it was made .

This Mercedes-Benz is so original everything right down to the carpet is as it came from the factory. The only thing i did to it was put a very high quality paint work on it, of course the paint did not last 42 years and it was starting to fade in some places so i took the car to my paint man and it was done right, everything was taken off the car and it was striped down to the metal and redone in the same factory color. It took approximately 1 and 1/2 months to do it, my painter told me there was no rust of any kind, no bondo, no dents, all the panels were all straight and all the gaps are all correct as the day they were made, all the doors rear trunk deck lid, and motor hood are all in line and work perfect. All the floors of the car are all original, as all of interior is also, nothing was ever changed. Really this car will run another 44 years because of how well it was made, and the old man who owned it for 42 years took such good care of it you could not find another 250 like this one even if you tried. The only car i can think of that would be made this good would be a Rolls-Royce and they cost more money. This car is absolutely one of the finest examples of this car left around, every time i drive it its hard for me to believe this car is as old as it is, for this car to be this old and never have anything ever done to it, but paint and general maintenance is astounding. The in line 6 with 7 mains runs smooth and strong and is legendary for running forever and they are virtually indestructible, unless you dont put oil or water in them, it always starts up and runs very well with out any oil leaks. The four speed transmission shifts smoothly because I did put a bran new linkage in it, so no problems there. It also does not leak any fluid. It has the real neat large oversize steering wheel and the original Becker radio that works, and I even have one of the original manuals. The gas tank was taken off the car and cleaned and painted, the fuel pump was rebuilt, the two 2 barrel zenith carburetors were cleaned and rebulit by my Mercedes mechanic and work like new. good thing a new set of these are 2,300 dollars, and a new gas gauge sending unit was also installed, it has disc brakes all around which was unheard of in the late 60s and new master brake, and a new slave and a new master and slave in the clutch also. I know there are other Mercedes - Benz 250s around but they have all been all redone over the years, this one is still the way it came from the Mercedes - Benz factory in Stuttgart, Germany in 1968, I just had to clean up all the gas running parts from the tank to the carbs on the car because it was not driven for so many years, and just sat in that heated garage... So if youre a collector looking for this kind of car, and demand the excellence only a mostly hand built all metal car by Mercedes- Benz would bring, call now!
