Being offered for sale is a rare, exquisite and highly awarded 1961 283ci / 315 hp Fuel Injected Corvette, with the optional 687 Heavy Duty Brakes and Suspension and 276 wide wheels. This is a race ready Corvette built at a time when the Corvette was coming into its own in motor sports. There are Corvettes and there are awesome Corvettes. This Roman Red, with Red Interior and a White Soft Top roadster is a truly a member of the elite legendary high performance class of Corvettes that made Corvette a world class sports car to be reckoned with on national as well as international race tracks.
Here is a 1961 Corvette, with a no-hit body, properly restored to factory original configuration and condition. Painted in Roman Red Lacquer, without block sanding, to avoid appearing over restored, this Corvette stands apart from restored Corvettes, which lack attention to detail and factory originality. All the RPO 687 Brake parts are either NOS or restored originals, with the exception of the rear brake shoes, which are very nice used originals. The trunk mat is an original 1961/62 mat. The fuel injection system was professionally rebuilt in 2010, the T-10 transmission and differential were rebuilt in 2006.
The car is optioned with a heater, Wonderbar AM radio, and Auxiliary hardtop. It comes with an original SJ4653 jack and jack tools and original glovebox package including second edition owners manual / full Corvette News card, Wonderbar radio sheet, clock instructions, gray paper envelope, Concerning Chevrolet booklet and battery policy and a blank original Owner Protection policy. It’s all here as it was in 1961.
The car passed the arduous NCRS Performance Verification test in Charlotte, NC in 2006 and received an NCRS National Top Flight Award and the coveted NCRS Duntov Award of Excellence in Marlborough, MA in 2007. With 735 test miles, since the restoration was completed, the Corvette is housed in a climate controlled environment. All the part numbers and dates are recorded and available to a serious buyer, as are the NCRS judging and Performance Verification sheets.
