A highly documented and original example with all original sheet metal. This fantastic Shelby Mustang is one of only 1,053 GT500KR’s built. The 428 “CJ” is backed by the original Top-Loader four-speed manual transmission and 3.50 geared 9-inch rear end. While all’68 Shelby Mustangs came with power steering, power front disc brakes, and fold down rear seats, this KR was also optioned with Tilt-Away steering column. The car has Shelby Automotive serial number 4003 and is documented with the factory invoice sheet, individual order form, and Deluxe Marti Report. Originally slated for sale in Pennsylvania, 4003 made its way to Texas early in life where it enjoyed a warm, dry climate. The fastback was located in an amazing well-preserved state by a well-known Shelby expert. It was still wearing 60% of the original paint and with only 31,000 miles showing on the odometer. The car was very carefully repainted in the correct and original Wimbledon White. Incredibly, the undercarriage was completely rust free and well preserved. Some serious elbow grease given to the suspension and floor pans was all that was required for preservation – not restoration. The red oxide found on the floors is the same application put on by Ford when new! 100 percent of the sheet metal, including all of the floors, is original to this car. To ensure perfection, the drivetrain was pulled and the engine compartment has been fully detailed. The interior remains almost 99% original and has only been treated to a thorough cleaning and minor detailing to preserve the excellent originality.
This Shelby GT500KR is an extremely well preserved original with only minor and careful restoration. All work performed was intended to only enhance its originality and show fully what a great car this “King of The Road” truly is! Call Brian at 260.925.6789 to discuss further.
