Far and away the most sophisticated, prestigious luxury sedan built up to its introduction in 1963, the Mercedes-Benz 600 has retained its panache and presence in the succeeding half century and is today so highly regarded that many are restored and used daily by astute owners who know their 600 will still upstage even the most expensve of todays luxury models. The Mercedes-Benz 600 exudes quality and elegance, and will easily track down freeways and byways at highly illegal speeds while coddling its passengers in luxury and instilling confidence in its driver. This 1966 Mercedes-Benz 600 Short Wheelbase sedan boasts all the 600s advanced features but hasnt been used in some years. It runs, but needs mechanical work to be used reliably. The ivory white body is straight, sound and complete, the original blue leather interior is sound with cracking to the drivers seat only. The chrome is similarly sound with the exception of a dented right rear wheel arch molding. There is some rust over the rear wheel arches. The air suspension needs attention which probably also extends to the other accessories power operated by the high pressure air system that is one of the 600s signature innovations. It is air conditioned and has a Becker Mexico radio. A well maintained highly original car that hasnt been used in some time, if it were just 15 or 20 percent better it could be used. The Mercedes-Benz 600 had an eighteen year lifespan, the longest of any Mercedes-Benz model in the companys long history and ample testimony to the 600s appeal. Only 2,677 were built in all body styles during that period and they are still highly sought after by todays collectors who recognize quality, luxury, rarity and performance.
