The Subject Vehicle is a 1970 Chevrolet El Camino show truck, highly modified for street and show. The truck was originally constructed and featured in Chevy High Performance magazine as the “High-Tech Hauler” in 1990. The truck then fell into disrepair and some rust issues befell the vehicle. When offered for sale in 2007, the current owner purchased the truck and then began a process of a complete rebuild of the vehicle. No costs were spared in its construction. All areas of rust were replaced with new parts and body areas were cut and removed and replaced with new sheet metal. Not wanting to stop at just restoring the original, the owner took this truck to the limits of high performance street machines. The old 396 motor was replaced in 2008 with a new 502 cu. in. 502 HP crate motor, fitted with a Billet Specialties unibelt system, Flex-A-Lite twin puller electric fans, Hooker ceramic coated headers with remote “cut outs” and a full 3” Flowmaster exhaust system. To add stability and control, Global West upper and lower tubular control arms were added to the front, with SSBC power disc brakes and Air Ride technologies air bag/shock system to control ride height. A full Hotchkis adjustable rear link kit and center section brace was added to the 3.31 posi rear end. The interior was redone in a very classy understated manor. The original flavor of the vehicle’s bench seat design was retained but updated and coordinated with the color of the exterior of the vehicle. New dash pad, instrument panel and restored gauges were added and a Hurst shifter added to control the TH400 3 speed transmission. The bed of the truck features a full power solid aluminum cover painted to match the truck. Inside is the Airpod air ride control system and a fuel cell.
