1960 marked the end of big for Lincoln. Produced for only three years, 1958-60, the Mark III-V Lincolns rode on a 131 inch wheelbase chassis and were 227 inches long overall, nearly nineteen feet, with a curb weight well over 2 1/2 tons. They were loaded with power assists and conveniences and dramatically, even flamboyantly, styled with demure fins, an intricate grille, canted headlights, chrome spears and sweeping cove embossments on the front fenders. Lincoln designer John Najjar describes the models objectives as a large, stately, luxurious vehicle with unique design and engineering features. It was all of that, and more, including its most noticeable feature, the Breezeway reverse-sloped power rear window. On convertibles the Breezeway window retracted in front of the folding top and its deck panel cover making these three Lincoln convertibles some of the most distinctively designed and recognizable convertibles ever built in America. This 1960 Lincoln Continental Mark V convertible has been fully restored top and bottom, inside and out in beautiful Polaris White with matching top and red leather upholstery. Power windows and a power front seat complement the Continentals full spectrum of comfort and convenience features. It was fully restored some years ago and maintained carefully and consistently since with some use and slight evidence of age but is still marked by the quality and thoroughness of its restoration. A few items among the Continentals vast array of chrome embellishments would benefit from attention, but the paint, major chrome, interior, glass and top are all in near showroom condition. This is a powerful, distinctively styled and luxurious automobile of which only 2,044 were built and will attract positive attention on the show field or proudly resident in a collection. On the road its distinctive styling and size, particularly with the top down on a fine summer day, will make a statement that cant be overlooked.
