Description

GM discovered that if they built intentionally designed trucks, theyd sell a whole bunch of them. Style mattered when this 1965 GMC was built, and clothed in black with a red interior, its perhaps has the most stylish build of all. Stepside pickups have a sporty, almost muscle car look to them, and with the dramatic sheetmetal on all 65 GMCs, this one cuts a dashing profile. Dig the intricate stamped hood that wraps around to the sides and creating body relief lines. Then theres the airfoil on the roof, which might help with keeping lightweight cargo in place, but even if it doesnt, the form looks awesome. The angled rear fenders give it the impression of speed, and this one probably looked pretty sporty when it was new. The black paint was done a few years ago and shows a few signs of age, but the steel underneath is solid and straight, giving this truck an honest look. The red pinstripe ties it together with the interior, as well as the bright highlights on the tailgate. The bed is filled with beautifully finished oak planks and stainless strips that look like theyve never even seen rain, let alone a heavy load. Chrome bumpers look good, along with the bolt GMC logo up front, and youll note theres another big GMC etched on the rear window. This truck makes a statement, literally and figuratively. What really makes this pickup special is the red interior, which is an unusual combination on a pickup, but nothing looks better. Of course it was replaced when the truck was refreshed a few years ago, including a new seat cover on the original bench, matching dash, new carpets, and youll note that even the door jambs are red. The original gauges remain in the dash, augmented by the usual auxiliary gauges underneath as well as a column-mounted tachometer. A B&M shifter manages a TH350 3-speed automatic underneath and looks great doing it. AM radios were standard equipment by 1965, which is nice, but today this one offers an AM/FM/cassette unit for a definite upgrade, as is the modern Grant small-diameter steering wheel. That original six cylinder engine is long gone, replaced by a stout 350 cubic inch V8, the way it should be. Neatly detailed, it offers a few chrome accents that give it a period performance look. With mods like this you can assume that its been loved and enjoyed by a fellow enthusiast, not radical enough to be a high-stress engine, but plenty of power and a great sound thanks to a set of headers and a dual exhaust system. Its clean, too, thanks to living in a warm climate all its life, and while it isnt detailed for show, there are no trouble areas, no concerns about rust or damage, and quite honestly, it doesnt look like this truck worked very hard for a living. The suspension has been lowered slightly, just enough so that the fat 275/60/15 white-letter radials totally stuff the wheel wells, and those aluminum wheels definitely help in the sportiness department. A neat old ride with style, fully sorted and ready to enjoy, its a great way to join the fastest-growing segment of the hobby: vintage trucks. Call today!
