A new 1641cc engine was built by master VW engine builder Tim Caves, Tujunga, CA, at 65,985 miles. Current mileage is 68,465 miles (2,480 miles on new engine). Engine build included new Empi 4110 chrome-moly forged counter-balanced crankshaft, new main and rod bearings, new aluminum bubble top case, new 87 mm Mahle pistons, new stock VW camshaft and bearings with new Mahle lifters, rebuilt VW rods, new factory VW cylinder heads with new valves and springs, new full flow oil system with Gene Berg oil pump cover plate with pressure relief, 12.5 lb flywheel, new clutch, Gene Berg 3.5 lb front pulley, Gene Berg gland nut and big washer. New carburetor. Motor is 7.1 to 1 compression ratio. Oil system includes engine housing mounted Fram HP 1 oil filter. All, complete engine tin and working thermostat and baffles. New heat exchangers. Exhaust headers with dual mufflers. Engine runs smooth and strong. New tie-rod ends and ball joints (the front end is "solid."). The vehicle has current Utah Safety Inspection.
