When I first saw a picture of a Lotus Europa, I was not too impressed by its looks, but later when I saw one in real life I liked it much better. The car is really small and the design makes much better sense when you see it in person. The roof line of the car stands at just over 40 inches, while a Ferrari 360 stands at 47 inches. This Lotus is in great shape, 90% original. The other 10% has made it much better. Look at the pictures closely - they really tell the story.
The paint and pin striping is original. There are, of course, a few very small rock chips. The biggest scratch is on top of the driver’s side top of the fender. It's about 2 inches long. The only paint stress spider web crack is around the rear motor cover lock. All chrome is nearly perfect. The interior upholstery is like new except for one seam that has pulled apart on the passenger seat. It has been filled it with black silicon seal and it's not very noticeable. The wood dash has a few bubble spots, but is in really good shape for its age. All five factory alloy wheels have recently been powder coated. The Yokohama AVS tires are like new. The brakes have been rebuilt with new rear wheel cylinders and front calipers rebuilt with new stainless steel caliper pistons. It has Spax shocks and adjustable lower links.
The factory head has been replaced with a Weber head with 2 Weber DCOE carburetors. This system had to be imported from England. This upgrade makes for a really powerful and fast Europa. In addition, it has electronic ignition, the water pump belt and the pulleys have been replaced with the notched type belt. I believe the fuel pump was also replaced. It looks new and the old one is in the box of parts. The car comes with a Lotus workshop manual, Weber carb, manual and several parts catalogs.
I have driven this car and it does take a little while to get used to it. Once I did though, I thoroughly enjoyed the driving experience. The little car has great sound from start to redline. It has suprising power all through the band, and it handles like a shifter-cart. It gets lots of looks, and some people follow you around with their cell cameras hanging out of their cars. It is a totally awesome experience.
Feel free to ask any questions. This is an exceptional Lotus Europa. 9000 of these were imported from 1964 to 1974. This must be one of best left.
