This is a completely original 1951 MG TD RIGHT HAND DRIVE convertible. It was # 4587 of 7451 manufactured at the Abington Factory of the Morris Garages in England and was originally exported to Australia before acquired by a collector in the U.S. It has been rebuilt several times and currently sports a newly rebuilt engine and new interior.
I used this car for Speed-Time-Distance rallies for many years (including first place in the Great Race for 2003). I have driven it from Lavonia, MI to Daytona, FL. in 2003, and from Washington D.C. to Denver, CO in 2004. Over all I have driven it to about 30 states and even did a promotional pre-race lap at the Daytona Pepsi 400. It has been on the track at the Michigan Int'l Speedway, Indianapolis Motor Speedway, and Darlington Raceway. It is in great running order and I use it for commuting when the weather is good.
Data: 1250 cc XPAG motor (54 HP), dual side-draft SU carburetors, advertised top Speed 77 mph and 0-50 mph in 21.3 seconds, original cost: $2,115, Body ID plate: Car #4587, Engine #4733 (Number on engine plate: 9701).
But everyone knows that you can't have two ladies in the house so when I finished rebuilding my 1932 Ford Hi-boy, the wife says the MG has to go. Included in the sale is a cloth convertible top (some wear), an extra transmission, 4.875:1 differential, radiator, starter, pumps, etc. all the parts that were needed back when it was racing. Also included is a set of Whitworth tools (remember the MG was neither SAE nor metric). Other unique features: positive ground, dip-stick fuel tank, wood dash, visors, 5.125:1 differential, after-market transmission cooler, radiator fan, and modified for spin-on oil filters.
Overall a great daily ride with supreme class and distinction.
