1966 Chevrolet Nova SS 327/350hp L79 Coupe

VIN: 118376N140956, Engine Number: 16N140956 T0114Z1

Chateau Slate with Black Interior

Introduced for the 1966 model year the Nova SS was restyled. The big news was the L79 option, a 327 cubic-inch 8-cylinder engine producing an astonishing 350 horsepower. Chrome engine accents, enlarged valves, and aluminum intake, four-barrel Holley carburetor, high-compression pistons, and modified camshaft meant the quarter mile time could be accomplished in 14 second range. With further modifications, the sub-3000 pound vehicle could easily enter into the 12 second range. Bill “Grumpy” Jenkins held the NHRA class world record with a similar Jenkins Competition prepared L79. The L79 was an instant performance hit and 5,481 were ordered with the L79 option. Chevy High Performance Magazine best describes the excitement for muscle car fanatics. "When the new '66 Chevy Nova hit the showrooms, the performance world took notice. This newly shaped muscle car not only enlisted Chevy's 327 to pull hard acceleration, but it also had a distinct advantage. Underneath the all-new sheet metal, hot-rodders found engine options up to 350 horses being offered in a car that tipped the scales at several hundred pounds less than the bigger Chevelle. It was the small car with big performance."

This particular car is equipped with bucket seats, center console, power brakes, M-20 4-speed manual transmission, 3:73 12 bolt positraction, Super Sport hub caps, and classic white wall radials. Most all factory correct components including the spare, jack, jack tools, seat belts, shifter, air cleaner, and T-3 headlights. This car received a rotisserie restoration nine years ago. Following the completion of the restoration, the car has only been driven a few hundred miles. The restoration was completed to good standards and the car presents extremely nicely. The paintwork is very nice, with no signs of wear or damage. The chrome and stainless are excellent, as are the hub caps and glass. The interior is also very nice. The upholstery is excellent, as is the dashboard. The carpets are very good, and instruments and switches are excellent as well. The door panels are excellent. The engine compartment is extremely clean and has been very nicely detailed. Correct finishes are applied on the engine, and the components are not over-restored.

The General Motors Shipping Data Report states the official production date was February 17, 1966 and the delivery dealer was E. M. Jones Chevrolet of Summerville, South Carolina (dealer code 419 in zone 16). It is great that Jones Chevrolet is still delivering new Chevrolets! This is an outstanding opportunity to acquire a very rare color, Chateau Slate, L79 Super Sport Nova. There were 5,481 Nova's built with the L79 option and less were built with the Super Sport option. Currently only four Chateau Slate 1966 L79 SS Nova's have been documented. The coupe is in superb shape and is nicely equipped and beautifully presented.

Please give us a call if we can answer any questions or to make an apponiment to see the Nova SS. (256) 461-9973 ask for David Beach
