1966 Volkswagen Beetle VIN: 116386481 One-owner California car Restored by Canepa in 2000 Only driven 800 a year since from May to September Always garaged and rust free This one-owner, California car has been in the hands of its Santa Cruz wood shop teacher since 1966. In 2000 he brought the car to Canepa for a restoration. What was amazing about this little car was how little restoration it needed. With just a faded paint job and a couple of dings the car was original and in great condition. We removed the fenders and stripped the car down for repaint. During its restoration only VW parts were used, including the seat covers and headliner. When it rolled out of our doors it was ready to wow at car shows. And that is what has been doing ever since. Every May since the restoration the car is removed from its climate controlled storage, the oil changed, the car mechanically inspected, and then it is off for a season of car shows. The Beetle clocks about 800 miles a year in the California summer, and then in September it is thoroughly winterized and put back in storage. Since its restoration the Bug has not seen a day of rain and is completely rust free. Few Beetles have seen this kind of one-owner care. Every attempt was made over the years to keep the little car as original as possible. It retains its stock 6-volt electrical system, now running on a more reliable 8-volt battery. Never in an accident, the car wears its original bumpers front and rear. A small miracle in the VW world. To keep the look period correct the car sits on a recent set of Coker reproduction BF Goodrich GT-100 radials. Always garaged, the Bug has been well maintained its entire life, including new brakes and shocks two years ago. It comes with its original jack, tools, and spare. One of the most influential cars of the 20th century, the peoples car
