The movie: "XXX" - the 2002 Blockbuster Action Film, Starring Vin Diesel and Samuel L. Jackson. Diesel stars as Xander Cage, a thrill seeking stuntman and rebellious anarchist who is in deep trouble with the law. He is recruited by Jackson to fight against the destruction of the world. Filming of the movie took place in three locations, with the majority set in Prague, Czech Republic.
The Car(s): Classic car enthusiasts flocked to the movie for one reason. Amongst all the foreign cars in the plot, most notable Ferraris, was Vin Diesel's ride — a 1967 Pontiac GTO. Despite the millions of dollars of performance vehicles in the story, the GTO steals the limelight. Seven cars were built for filming.
The stunt cars were upgraded for abuse with heavy duty suspension, welded support gussets in the engine bay, etc. Unable to fill the order with true GTO's, four of the seven were modified 1967 LeMans models.
The movie's director, Rob Choen, chose the exterior color, a DuPont shade that hadn't even been manufactured yet. House of Kolors was given the task of blending the custom hue — DAZZLEBERRY. The paint was the most expensive upgrade on the cars.
Any viewer of "XXX" will quickly realize that the stunt cars were subjected to severe abuse. Some of the more severely damaged units were left in Prague. This car is the one used for "Sweetheart" close-up still shots.
The car is a real 242 code GTO. The 400 CID engine is not the original, but all Pontiac. The GTO shifts via a Turbo 400 Automatic. Factory options include power steering and factory air conditioning.
Eddie Paul, a renowned movie car builder, was the builder of all 5 hero cars for the movie, and the stunt Jeeps. Famed car builder George Barris added a "few" of the finishing touches and the certificate of authenticity giving the car it's pedigree. Some of which include shaved door handles with remote openers, weld dragster wheels with BF Goodrich Radial T/A tires, custom made Hood Scope, Flames on the Hood. Also note a bit of "weaponry." The rear seat is the weapon storage area. And for extra "Juice" Vin carried the four foot missile on road trips.
With "XXX" a blockbuster success, a few clones were built with no affiliation to the movie, but sold as such commanding top dollar. This GTO is the real deal, with authenticity documents, movie board displays and complete ownership history. After the movie release, the car was displayed in Europe, Great Britain and various locations in the US. Then the car was leased to Hollywood Star Cars Museum in Gatlinburg, TN, where it has been on display for nearly a decade. Through a "car friend" in Nashville, I heard that the GTO was going to be sold. So after quit a few dollars and an enclosed trailer ride, here it is in Vernal. If you read all this, then you know as mi as I do about the "LiL'" GTO. (1967-gto-xxx-01)
