History: The E-type was initially designed and shown to the public as a grand tourer two seater coupé form (FHC or Fixed Head Coupe) and as convertible (OTS or Open Two Seater). The model was made in 3 distinct versions generally referred to as "Series 1", "Series 2" and "Series 3". Series 2 cars such as this one feature Open headlights without glass covers (Earlier cars had problems with misting, despite gaskets), a wrap-around rear bumper, re-positioned and larger front indicators and taillights below the bumpers, better cooling aided by an enlarged "mouth" and twin electric fans, and uprated brakes are hallmarks of Series 2 cars. The engine is easily identified visually by the change from smooth polished cam covers to a more industrial 'ribbed' appearance. The interior and dashboard were also redesigned, with flick switches being substituted for rocker switches that met U.S health and safety regulations. The E type is generally considered one of the seminal sports car designs of all time, in fact it was displayed in the Museum of Modern Art due to its stunning lines. No collection is complete without an E Type.
Provenance: This specimen E Type OTS was originally purchased new by James A. DiFilippo of Springfield, Missouri from Abingdon Motor Cars, St. Louis, Missouri. Mr. DiFilippo owned the motor car for quite some time until it was purchased by Mr. William Holiday of Lake Quivira, Kansas in 1992. At the time of his purchase, the vehicle was in a state of disarray. Mr. Holiday embarked upon a deliberate, full restoration of the vehicle. Mr. Holiday’s first steps involved certifying the vehicle’s authenticity through the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust. (See photos of documentation.) The restoration project lasted over two years concluding in 1994. The motor was sent to Welch’s Jaguar to be rebuilt and Mr. Holiday engaged the services of Sheldon Classic Auto Restoration of Lawrence, Kansas to manage the project. Sheldon Classic embarked upon a thoroughly documented restoration which chronicles each step undertaken. Mr. Holiday took meticulous care of his prize motor car for almost ten years until his untimely death from cancer. In early 2005, Mr. David Yoka, a noted preservationist of historic homes and avid classic car collector/restorer of Independence, Missouri, acquired this gorgeous Primrose roadster from Mr. Holiday’s estate in close to the same pristine condition as it was when Holiday’s restoration was completed. Mr. Yoka made some upgrades to the vehicle and continued the exceptional stewardship of this motor car and showed it successfully in collector car events.
I acquired this Jaguar from Mr. Yoka in October 2006 checking off one of my Top 5 bucket list items. In 1970, as a senior in high school playing in a rock and roll band and owning an entrepreneurial “pop poster business,” I purchased a brand new 1970 E Type OTS from Bolin Jaguar in Oklahoma City. I only owned my pride Jaguar for 18 months and traded it for a new ’71 Cutlass Convertible. What was I thinking? Until I acquired this E Type roadster from David Yoka, I still had recurring dreams/nightmares that I had parked my Jag someplace and couldn’t remember the location.
Well, it’s been six years of ownership and my busy schedule has prevented me from barely adding to the mileage on the odometer. However, it’s as pristine as the day it arrived on the covered transport from Independence, Missouri and remains a true head turner any time I take it out for a spin. It’s now time to part with this beauty and go check off the next item on the bucket list.
