Here is a magnificent example of a 1979 Trans-Am. This car is a California original, having spent much of its life in the southwest which has kept it rust-free all these years. It is completely solid top to bottom, making it a rare find among mid-70's cars. The car was completely repainted several years ago along with new decals; it looks fantastic!
This example was sold on May 24, 1979 by Hockett Auto Sales in Grass Valley, California. The car had 18.7 miles on it when delivered to the new owner, who lived just down the road in Smartsville. It stayed with its first owner for 20 years, after which it founds its way to Phoenix, Arizona. From there it came to its most recent owner in Illinois, where it has been the last ten years. It isn't often you have such a complete history as this.
The car has its original shaker-scoop 403ci motor. It starts and runs very smoothly; it is not a big lumpity-lump type of motor. The factory smog pump is still in place and functional. Still, it can chirp the tires with the typical Pontiac torque. Its TH350 automatic transmission shifts fine and the 10-bolt rear is quiet. The brakes are power discs in front and work great.
This car was originally Nocturne Blue, but was repainted Midnight Blue ten years ago. It received new decals as well. I think it looks much better in this darker color. The original Snowflake wheels are in nice shape.
The light blue interior is beautiful. The seats have been recovered and cushions replaced, so they are in great shape and as comfortable as a 1979 Trans-Am gets. The dash pad, door panels, carpet, and headliner are all in good condition as well. Everything is working, including the power windows, power locks, rear defroster, and all gauges. Even the clock still works. The car presently has a modern AM/FM/CD audio system, but the original AM/FM/8-track unit (as called out on the window sticker) is included!
The factory air conditioning is also present and fully functional. For real. It was recently serviced and received a new compressor, receiver/drier, and lines. It is still an R12 system as well for maximum cooling.
As a bonus, I have a binder full of documentation including the window sticker, build sheet, and first registration certificate. I also have old California smog inspection certificates, all with the correct VIN. I think this adds so much history that often goes missing.
This is a car you can really enjoy driving, with the power steering, power brakes, and automatic transmission making for an easy cruise. It is nicely optioned, very original, and includes lots of historical documentation. There aren't many cars from the mid-70's that have the aura of a Trans-Am, and with Pontiac's demise these are sure to increase in value. Check it out today!
