Some cars arrive late at the collector car party. Theyve got sexier or more powerful siblings, or theyre just a year off here or there. But, like the girl you didnt notice in high school, given time they simply blossom. Such is the appeal of the car here: A 1972 Dodge Charger Rallye, complete with a big block, louvered doors, a power bulge hood, great lines and a TON of original docs. While the 73 wasnt beaten with an ugly stick like so many other of Detroits offerings, the 72 is definitely more pure. The Rallye package adds what was on the 71 R/T, including the cool power bulge hood and the segmented taillights. The doors are 72 Rallye-only with their scallops and inserts, and it includes a cut-out rear valance with turbine exhaust tips. The paint is nice, shiny and even, and its on original body panels. Fender mounted turn signals are part of the light package which also adds a map light and a trunk light. Panel gaps are nice, the factory-correct Tawny Gold Metallic paint is clear and the overall presentation is very nice. This is a car you can be proud of. Inside, youre looking at a pair of bucket seats with a fold down armrest between them. Its a great setup for cruising as the armrest really helps on long trips. The seat covers and carpet is from Legendary while the vast majority of the pieces you see here are original-this really is a well kept car. The Rallye edition came with, obviously enough, rallye gauges, and these are in great shape. This car still has its rare AM/FM radio, and it has one of the stranger options available-Astro Ventilation. Basically, you got the dash vents for an A/C car without the A/C! A quick check of the trunk shows a proper spare, the jack and (possibly) the original trunk mat. Under that long hood is a potent 400 Magnum, dressed in its proper bright blue hue. The 400 was the replacement for the 383, with a few more cubes to make up for the loss of compression in 72. Its a very docile motor that makes great torque and doesnt complain a bit. The air cleaner is properly Hemi Orange, and its a correct 72 unit. Electronic ignition is on the firewall while a Carter carb mixes the fuel. Youll find fresh hoses and belts, a rebuilt alternator and a rebuilt master cylinder in here as well. Underneath, clean floors and frames are just what you want to find. A newer dual exhaust system with Flowmasters is in place. Factory disc brakes are up front, a 727 automatic is in the middle and a stout 8 axle is out back. Handling is augmented by factory front and read sway bars. New chrome Magnum 500 style road wheels, 15x7 all around, hold 225/70R15 BFGoodrich Radial T/As. Theres also a TON of original paperwork, including the broadcast sheet, the original bill of sale, the fender tag, original owners manual and the original window sticker. This really is a great car thats just coming into its own. Call today! This vehicle is located in our Atlanta showroom. For more information, please call (678) 279-1609 or toll free (877) 367-1835.
