Morris introduced its new small car, the Morris Minor, in late 1948 as 1949 models. In 1953 the Minor gained an 803cc overhead valve engine. Its extra power made the larger load carrying capacity of the wood-framed Traveler estate car practical but the 1957 Minor 1000 made it even more enjoyable. Minors were simple automobiles selling for well under $2,000 in the US but their small size, light weight, accurate rack and pinion steering and responsive suspension made them delightful to own and drive. This 1960 Morris Minor 1000 Traveler Estate Car is exceptionally well restored in dark green with beige upholstery and tan carpets. The rear bodywork wood framing is light ash with body color fenders and panels and side-hinged rear doors that open to reveal a tan carpeted baggage compartment and a folding rear seat back that extends the cargo area to the back of the front seats. Its equipment is Spartan, consisting of a heater and not much else in keeping with the Morris Minors emphasis on simplicity and economy. Importantly for American collectors, this is a lefthand drive Minor with 4-speed floor shift transmission. The restoration is exceptional, particularly for a sub-compact economy car, with gorgeous paint, brightly varnished wood, sparkling chrome and pristine interior. An ideal weekend runabout for estate, beach or lake home, this meticulously restored 1960 Morris Minor 1000 Traveler Estate Car will not fail to satisfy the most discriminating collector, particularly the many collectors who are intrigued by diminutive postwar vehicles from the UK and the Continent.
