Description

Older build with 302 V8 and automatic. Expertly chopped convertible top folds properly, power seats, power steering and brakes, excellent running and driving convertible rod.

The body has traditional modifications like frenched headlights, shaved door handles and trim, and fender skirts for a vintage vibe, as if the car is straight out of the ‘60s. The black paint is good, but no longer show quality, but the red flames up front are competently done with crisp edges and a great pattern that looks right on this low-riding cruiser. Trick details include 1959 Cadillac taillight lenses molded into the body, a flush fuel filler door, and turn signals hidden behind the front grilles for a super sanitary look. The doors open thanks to electric solenoids that are actuated by buttons hidden under the top flap where it snaps to the body, a very clean, clever location.

Inside, you’ll find a white vinyl interior that contrasts brightly with the black and red paint job, and appears to have been lifted almost intact from what appears to be a ‘60s GM intermediate. Both front buckets are power-actuated, which is a neat touch in a vintage rod like this, and the pleated upholstery looks right and wears like iron. The original gauges are in the dash, augmented by a set of auxiliary instruments hanging underneath. The folding top has been expertly chopped to give a low profile look, and one person can easily fold it into place where it hides under a custom-made white boot. The trunk is fully upholstered in black carpet, and includes a matching full-sized spare tire.

Mechanically, we’re pleased to see a Ford in this vintage Ford—in this case a 302 cubic inch V8. Topped by an Edelbrock Performer RPM intake and a Holley 4-barrel, it has a gutsy feel that moves the sleek convertible effortlessly. Power rack-and-pinion steering and brakes are included with the front suspension upgrade that also includes coil springs and tube shocks—a big improvement over Henry’s rigid axle and buggy spring. A C4 3-speed automatic drives a 9-inch rear end, which hangs on the original leaf springs with lowering blocks to give this car its awesome stance. The frame and underbody are completely solid, but not detailed for show, although a few choice pieces of the suspension have been painted bright red to match the engine. Red wheels with Oldsmobile spinner hubcaps have been fitted with 205/75/14 Coker wide whitewall radials to complete the traditional look.

Its show days are probably over, but what a great cruise night special that can hit the road and travel cross-country without a second thought. Simple, rugged, fully sorted, and well-built, this ’41 Ford represents a lot of cool drop-top fun for not a lot of money. Give us a call and we’ll tell you all about it.
