Description

The early Ford Thunderbird remains one of the blue-chip investments of the car hobby. No, it wont make you rich overnight, but they have a consistent and loyal following and their values have been steadily rising year after year, making this recently restored 1955 Thunderbird a car you can buy with your mind as well as your heart. This beautiful Thunderbird was treated to a full professional body-on restoration in 2012. The original Thunderbird Blue color is striking, and the interior, trunk and engine bay have all been properly restored. In the new interior the radio has been upgraded to an AM/FM vintage style unit for enjoyable cruising. Bright color-matched vinyl in turquoise and white is a nice change from all the black and white interiors we see in these cars. Other newly installed parts include a black fabric convertible top, replica sealed battery, 205/75-15 radial whitewall tires, exhaust system, and brakes. The drivetrain was completely rebuilt, with an engine-out rebuild including new pistons, crankshaft, and cam, and a rebuild of the factory 3-speed transmission. The nicely restored engine bay features all the correct parts, including the chrome air cleaner, chrome valve covers, and Ford Red paint on the block. Fords Y-block V8 provided power for the Thunderbird, in this case a P-code 292 cubic inch V8 making 192 horsepower. It starts easily and has a wonderful V8 exhaust note that invites you out onto the open road. Arguably the purest of the early Thunderbirds, this 1955 looks unique simply because its not wearing fender skirts. As a result, it has much more of a sports car look than its siblings, one that I like a lot. Of note, this one carries the rare 3-speed manual transmission, so its highly entertaining to drive, with light shift action and a delightful V8 burble with the top down. And speaking of the top, this one includes a correct early non-porthole hardtop in contrasting white, fully restored inside and out. Included are the original shop manual and a handbook. Not many collector cars are icons like the Thunderbird, and youll find that everywhere you go in this one, youre a celebrity. Call today! This vehicle is located in our Charlotte showroom.
