The 1962 Corvette marked the end of an era for America's sports car. This was the last year for the wrap around windshield, solid rear axle, and convertible only body style. The first generation trunk lid and exposed headlights would not reappear in the Corvette until the C6 Corvette was born in 2005.
While the 1962 Corvette harkened back to its roots, it was faster, handled better, looked handsomer, and was more civilized than any previous Corvette. With more power and cleaner looks, it ranks as perhaps the most desirable Corvette between 1957 and 1963. The most desirable of the 1962 Corvettes is the fuel injected model, with the 327ci/360hp engine. This is the ultimate performance C1 Corvette. Keith Martin’s American Car Collector magazine gives the 1962 fuel injected Corvette an investment rating of A (Cars that will always have a following and will always bring strong money when they are offered for sale. They embody the attributes of style, performance, historical significance, rarity, and competition history that often typify first-rank collectibles.)
The Tuxedo Black with Black interior, White Soft Top and Auxiliary Hard Top being offered for sale is an original 1962 fuelie presenting in “high driver” condition. The car has a correct; but, not original to the car, engine, with less the 2,000 miles on it’s rebuild. The fuel injection system was rebuilt at the same time as the engine. The transmission is the original date coded and Vin stamped T-10 Borg-Warner 4-Speed. The body panels are all original to the car, as is the interior and window glass. The car’s paint looks good from 5 feet. Upon close inspection a few minor imperfections are evident. The imperfections do not detract from the overall appearance of the vehicle.
The current owner has owned the car for the past 15 years. He has owner history on the car going back to 1967.
This 1962 Fuel Injected Corvette is the ideal car for the enthusiast who wants to drive and enjoy a high performance classic Corvette roadster, without fear of damaging a freshly concourse restored car. If at anytime the buyer decided he wanted to undergo a full award winning restoration, he has an investment grade Corvette worthy of the endeavor.
